Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity (FNHC) provides care and support through in-patient and at-home services to local families affected by life-limiting illness, covering Bucks, Beds and parts of Oxfordshire. The Florence Nightingale Hospice in Aylesbury, is a 12-bedded unit providing in-patient care, Day Hospice, a Specialist Community Nursing Team, Lymphoedema Clinic, Bereavement Support, Florrie’s Children’s Team and the Nightingale 24/7 Care Team.

The Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance

The Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance is an independent charitable trust providing a lifesaving service for the counties of Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, including Milton Keynes.

Our distinctive red and yellow EC135 helicopter, BOB, is affectionately named after these three counties.

The Charity’s aim is to bring rapid medical attention when and where it is needed and to transport patients to hospital in the quickest possible time. Air Ambulance BOB is manned by a regular doctor-led crew, who are highly trained in pre-hospital emergency medical care and deliver the highest level medical attention to those who need it.

As well as carrying a full range of life-saving equipment to enable swift medical intervention on the ground, BOB also has an additional seat to carry a parent or carer to accompany a sick or injured child.

Based at RAF Benson in in Oxfordshire, the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance operates 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. On average, BOB is called out 2-3 times a day to emergency missions involving road traffic collisions, equestrian and sporting accidents and the onset of acute illnesses such as heart attacks and strokes, with each mission costing over £2,500.

Air Ambulance BOB is frequently scrambled to areas that a land ambulance could not access. It is the speed in which the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance can provide on-scene treatment and air conveyance that can make all the difference in saving a person’s life.

Also on Today...Halton House Open Day - 10am-4pmA rare opportunity to view the ground floors of Halton House. The mansion, now a working officer’s mess at RAF Halton, has also been used for filming on many occasions, with The Queen, Eastenders, Poirot, Downtown Abbey, Dancing On The Edge and Casino Royale to name a few.

Commissioned by Alfred de Rothschild to join the other Rothschild family residences in Buckinghamshire, Halton house was completed in 1883 and for 30 years provided the venue for Alfred’s sparkling weekend house parties which attracted the cream of British society, stars of the theatre and even Royalty. On Alfred’s death in 1918, the house was aquired by the Royal Air Force for the small sum of £115,000; a rediculously low price even by the standards of today.

Free parking and limited disabled access will be available. Light refreshments and souvenirs will be on sale.

Trenchard Museum - 10am-4pmWhy not visit the Trenchard Museum for an insight into the history of RAF Halton. The museum has two complete aircraft, many models of aircraft, a number of aero engines, weapons and other equipment on display. The overall aim of the museum is to preserve and display items that relate to the early history of the Royal Air Force and in particular the training of apprentices which took place at RAF Halton. A fantastic experience for all ages.

Halton Singers Society’s autumn show - Pip Squeak and Wilfred commemorates the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One 1914 and is tribute to all the men and women who answered the call of duty to serve their country in time of need.The Concert takes place in Halton Village Hall on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th September at 7.30pm.
