THE PATIENCE OF GOD
The first reading says that God's might is the basis for divine justice. We might take this to mean that God uses mighty power to punish sinners, in the legal sense of justice. But God is too powerful to be injured by our sins. God can afford to wait for us to repent. That is the point of the parable of the wheat and the weeds.
We are used to expecting swift justice. We like TV shows in which the bad guy is caught and convicted in an hour. The idea of God giving sinners until the end of time to repent is almost un-American--at least, until we realize that we are sinners, too. Yet God is still willing to wait for all of us to repent. That is the wonder of God's love, that God's Son came to die for sinners, even before we sinned.
Of course, that means that we also share forgiveness with others. But the more often we go to confession, the more we are reminded of God's love and forgiveness. Those reminders can help us to be more willing to show mercy ourselves. Let us ask God for the courage to seek forgiveness and the strength to forgive. Tom Schmidt, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Missionary Appeal On August 1-2 we were scheduled to be visited by Fr. Kyere of the Diocese of Konono-Mampong, Ghana, to hear of their great work and the great need there. Sadly, due to the pandemic, we will not be able to hear from Fr. Kyere personally, but their need is dire, especially now. As stated in a letter to Msgr. Beach from the Pontifical Mission Societies,
“As with most catastrophic events, the world's poor have been hit the hardest. Our Missionaries rely primarily on this Appeal and the support of YOU and the faithful of your parish.”
The 2020 Mission Summary/Project for Konongo-Mampong Diocese, Ghana
Bishop Joseph Osei Bonsu Bishop of Konongo-Mampong The Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong, Ghana, West Africa was created on March 3, 1995 by His Holiness Pope John Paul II. The diocese has 54 parishes, 126 priests, 155 lay religious, and 59 seminari-ans. It has over 79,000 Catholics and runs 10 health facilities, 89 kindergartens, 108 primary schools, 31 junior high schools, six senior high schools and a university, the Spiritan University College at Ejisu. The vision of the Konongo-Mampong Diocese is a new society where the poor and the marginalized have discovered that within themselves and their environment there are great potentials to make sustainable progress in their living conditions towards self-reliance and holistic development in the light of the Gospel and the Church's Social Teaching. Many of the people in the diocese are subsistence farmers. Being farmers, they depend on rain for everything. If it doesn't rain much, they are not going to get much. The overall needs of the diocese are many. Many people have become Catholics and don't have church buildings. Some of the villages don't have schools, some don't have clean water, and many have been denied healthcare. The diocese is hoping particularly to provide access to clean water and transportation for their priests to better minister in the rural diocese.
The Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong, in response to the call of Christ and in union with the universal Church, is committed to working with all people, especially the poor, in the attainment of their social, health, economic and religious needs. It is the mission of the dio-cese to restore their human dignity to them, to liberate them from abject poverty, diseases, ignorance, superstition, injustice, mental slavery, and despair so that they may bear witness to the Good News of Jesus Christ.
In response to Christ's invitation, the diocese takes up the challenge to work towards the promotion of Christian values among all people. Through the administration of the sacraments, the diocese strives to nurture and strengthen both the physical and the spiritual needs of the people of God entrusted to its care.
Visit the Konono-Mampong Diocese at kmdiocese.org, and please be generous in the August 1-2 collection.
Our day is designed to help couples prepare for a strong, successful, lifelong marriage in a joy-filled, welcoming, environment. The sessions are held at St. Jude School located at 323 West Butler Avenue, Chalfont.

A Message from our Director of Parish Faith Formation
Dear parish family, I hope you are managing this summer ok. So many decisions have been put on hold! From school, sports, weddings, parties, and vacations, just to name a few. Our lives are turned upside down. I hope you are able to at least enjoy the sunshine, and thank Our Lord for each new day. Please pray always for an end to this pandemic. I hope all families are praying a rosary each day. Formed.org has a daily reflection that is an inspiring way to reflect on the Bible. It is sent to your email. Dr. Tim Gray recently reflected on Formed that we should not despair, “God’s light can dispel the darkness” and “God’s mercy can overcome everything.” How blessed we are to have our wonderful Faith! PREP parents, please send in your registration forms as soon as you can. If you have a first grader, be sure to register him or her, also. Remember you have two choices, either traditional Monday or once a month Family Faith Sunday program. As soon as we have a plan in place regarding the programs I will email all of you. Thank you to all Confirmation students who submitted your documents on time. If you haven’t done so, please contact the PREP office to make other arrangements. All First Holy Communion parents should have received the virtual First Holy Communion retreat. Please check your spam folder and contact me if you haven’t received it. God bless all of you. Mrs. Lori Rawski
