Live, Love, and Serve in the Image of Christ

In his hometown synagogue, Jesus’s neighbors are amazed by his words. Nevertheless, they remind each other, Is this not Joseph's son? The carpenter's son. The young man who had learned in this very synagogue. The boy down the street.

Conflict arises as Jesus begins to define himself in a new way. When he compares himself to the ancient prophets Elijah and Elisha the tensions grow.

The tensions multiply when Jesus begins to tell of a new mission for God's people: the good news of the scriptures is intended for all.

Jesus slips through the crowd of persecutors and moves on to new challenges.

A summary report of the data will be provided following the survey — no one will have access to individual responses. Please participate by completing the brief 10-15 minute survey (starting on Feb. 9, 2019).

My friends in Christ:

EXCITEMENT WAS IN THE AIR

The week of January 27th was dedicated to Catholic Schools Week. The St. Jude Parish and School Community gathered at the 10:00 AM Sunday Mass to open this special week and to give thanks and praise to God for the gift of our National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Following the Mass, the school hosted an Open House for all to visit. The school was filled with teachers, staff, students, alumni, school volunteers, and board members. So many new families interested in sending their children to our wonderful school, toured the facilities and met the faculty, staff and Sister Elizabeth. Throughout the week, there were special celebrations for community, volunteers, faculty, students, alumni and grandparents. On Wednesday, January 30th, an “under 21” graduate reunion was among our celebratory events.

We topped the week off with a closing Mass on Friday, February 1st, for the students and their grandparents. The homily for this very special occasion focused on the theme of “How much do you love me?” Clearly, our children love their grandparents who, in turn, adore their grandchildren. The church was filled with such joy and pride. What a great week we had. Thanks to all of you for your continuous support of St. Jude School.

DIRECTOR OF SACRED MUSIC

The position of Director of Sacred Music has opened up in our Parish. I have posted the job description for this position throughout the Archdiocese. We have formed a search committee made up of Deacon John Riordan, Michael Meade, Stella Ryan, Melanie Hazelrigg, Michele Zielke and Scott Cryder. If you know of any qualified candidates who might be interested in applying for this position, please go to our parish website and see the job description or call the rectory and we will forward it to the interested party.

DISTRIBUTION OF HOLY COMMUNION UNDER BOTH SPECIES

In response to requests from parishioners, we have reinstated the distribution of Holy Communion under both species starting at the Vigil Mass this weekend. Holy Communion under both species will be distributed at one Mass each weekend on a rotating basis. Next week, Communion under both species is scheduled for the 8AM Mass followed in the proceeding weeks at 10AM, Noon and then starts over again at the 4:30 Vigil Mass. Our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion have been prepared for the distribution of Holy Communion under both species.

Dear Monsignor Beach,

Thank you for your support of the Pro-Life Union—we are so

grateful for your parish’s commitment to the cause of life! The amount of $2141 donated by your parish during Respect Life Sunday activities will help us to continue to affirm the sanctity of every human life and support the many women and children we meet.

At our maternity home, Guiding Star Ministries, we have expanded community outreach and are interacting with additional families—offering resources and speaking about the humanity of the unborn child. Through our efforts at 40 Days for Life, we have impacted the community and changed hearts. This is possible because of the support of the good people at St. Jude. Please give them our thanks!
