Livable and Sustainable Community Mobile App Challenge Transportation Research Center for Livable Communities (TRCLC) at Western Michigan University invites high school students to participate in “The Livable and Sustainable Community Mobile App Challenge.” TRCLC, a University Transportation Center funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation, aims to address the nation’s critical transportation challenges through the prism of livable communities. The focus of this challenge is to invite high school students to conceptualize a mobile app that will help improve sustainable transportation options for communities in Michigan with special attention paid to non-motorized travel, public transit, traffic safety, energy saving, safe routes to school and “smart” transport technologies. Interested? Here are the next steps - 1) Register - Form your team, create a team name and register. We request interested high school students register for the competition by filling out the online form by December 15, 2016. Teams of 1-4 students will be allowed to compete, but each student must register separately. 2) Workshop - Attend the mobile app development workshop being held for participants on January 21, 2017. The workshop will assist students with the development of their mobile app. 3) Imagineer your idea - Come up with a mobile app idea that will help improve sustainable transportation options for communities in Michigan. Concepts can be for non-motorized travel, public transit, traffic strategy, energy saving, safe routes to school and “smart” transport technologies. 4) Submission Deadline - The deadline for competition submissions will be April 15, 2017. This is when the completed mobile app needs to be finished and submitted to the TRCLC judges. Participating students will receive certificates of achievement from Western Michigan University.
