Psalm 95
R/. Give the Lord glory and power.
Sing a new song to the Lord,
sing to the Lord all the earth.
Tell among the nations his glory
and his wonders among all the peoples.
The Lord is great and worthy of praise,
to be feared above all gods;
the gods of the heathens are nought.
It was the Lord who made the heavens.
Give the Lord, you families of peoples,
give the Lord glory and power,
give the Lord the glory of his name.
Bring an offering and enter his courts.
Worship the Lord in his temple.
O earth, tremble before him.
Proclaim to the nations: ‘God is king.’
He will judge the peoples in fairness.

Intercession :
Response :
“Give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar – and to God what belongs to God.’”
Through the celebration of our Baptism we are called children of God; Baptism changes who we are forever. We are called to proclaim the message of salvation - the message of Jesus Christ - to the ends of the earth. We do this, not only by what we say and how we behave, but also by what we do; by how we interact in the world. The sacrament of Baptism is the gateway to the other sacraments; it is the foundation of our faith. Our faith is not, and indeed, cannot, be simply something that is added on to our lives, like a hobby, but is fundamentally part of who we are.
The challenging words of the Gospel penetrate deeply into our life of faith: “give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God”. They remind us of our dual nationality - we belong to God through Baptism, and we belong to the world as responsible citizens who care for its growth and flourishing. We are called to live in the world, to engage with the world, and to transform the world from within. When we are presented with challenges by the world’s secular agenda, we are called to engage, to dialogue, to at all times proclaim the person of Jesus Christ in the darkness of the world. Blessed Paul VI reminds us that “lay people, whose
particular vocation places them in the midst of the world […]
must exercise a very special form of evangelisation”. Our dual
nationality is a great privilege; and the Gospel encourages us to make the most of it.
The Gospel remind us that we have a responsibility for both our fair stewardship of the world, and to God. When these two are in harmony with each other, there will flow the beautiful melodies of peace and justice; disharmony brings about conflict and division.
The Second Vatican Council’s Constitution on the Church in the modern world (Gaudium et Spes) speaks of the world as being “the theatre of man’s history”. Let us take to the stage, and contribute to the building up of our society, and of our beautiful world, as the Lord commands.

ALL SAINTS DAY
November 1st is a particular day of celebration where recall
the spiritual solidarity which binds together the faithful on
earth, the souls in purgatory and the saints in heaven - the
Communion of Saints. This year it also marks to 10th
Anniversary of another bond; the coming together of the six
churches of our parish as a physical expression of the
Communion of Saints within Newport. As a day where we
are obliged to attend Mass (Holyday of Obligation) we will
be providing FOUR Masses throughout the parish that
should hopefully assist everyone in fulfilling the
obligation. The Mass times will be as follows:
Vigil Mass - 7:00 pm St. David’s
Mass of the Day - 7:30 am St. Mary’s;
- 10:00 am St. David Lewis;
- 12.30 pm St. Mary’s
- 7:00 pm St. Mary’s
Following the evening Mass at St. Mary’s there is a
celebration being organised in the Institute. A chance for us
to celebrate our Communion with each other and will all the
Saints. It would be good to see as many of you there as
possible.
ALL SOULS DAY
Having celebrated the common bond of the Communion of
Saints, on November 2nd we focus our prayers on the
faithful departed, those should making that final journey to
heaven. Another day of significant prayer within the Church,
although we are not obliged to attend Mass this day it is a
work of charity to pray for the Holy Souls. As well as the
scheduled Masses (see below) we will be making the annual
visit to St. Woolos Cemetery for the ‘Blessing of the graves’.
Masses: 9:30am St. Anne’s;
10:00am St. Mary’s;
6:00pm St. Basil & Gwladys;
7:00pm St. Michael’s
Blessing of the graves: 11:00am - St. Woolos Cemetery
(meet outside the old Catholic Chapel)

The family of the late Michael Elliott
would like to thank everyone who attended his funeral on Monday,
which we felt was a very uplifting and moving celebration of his
life. Special thanks to Fr Michael Doyle and the Eucharistic
ministers for visiting Dad in hospital, it was much appreciated.
There will be a memorial lunchtime concert in St Mary’s at 1pm on
Friday December 8th.
WHAT A NIGHT!
A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who came along & supported
the work of HCPT Group 99 at our Annual Fundraising evening
last Friday. With around 200 people attending, the room was alive
& everyone had lots of fun with great music, great food & great
company. The support we have is amazing & proceeds from this
annual event take us ever closer to our goal of raising money for
some very special children to travel at Easter. The last minute
donation of the Rugby international tickets which were auctioned
gave an additional boost to the funds. Thank you to everyone who
came along & for the additional donations on line....We couldn’t do
it without you! www.justgiving.com/hcptgroup99

Pope Francis has declared Sunday 19th
November as the first World Day of the
Poor. An event is to be held at the
Cornerstone in Cardiff on that day. In
preparation for that, each Deanery is having a
chance to bring together 3‒4 representatives
from each parish.
A workshop will be held at St Mary’s
Institute, Stow Hill Newport on Monday
23rd
October at 7.00pm to identify some of
the issues the Holy Father has asked
Catholics to consider in their work with the
poor. If you are interested in attending this
workshop and the event at the Cornerstone
