Third Sunday of Easter Page 3

LIVING ROSARY: Back by popular demand is the Living Rosary this Wednesday, May 8th at 7:00pm in the church. For the past several years we have been offering this prayer experience in October and have now added it to our calendar for the month of May. Representatives of all the ministries and organizations of the parish will be a ‘bead’ of the rosary. As we pray the rosary we will be praying for the intention of the parish dedicated to Our Lady Queen of Peace. Hope to see you there. REFLECTING ON THE SUNDAY GOSPEL: This Saturday, May 11th at 10:00am in the parish hall is the next gathering of anyone who like to delve into the Sunday gospels. We will be reading and reflecting on the gospels for the remainder of the Easter Season. There is no preparation or study required. We read the gospel and then share what we hear God saying to us in that passage. The next session will then be June 8th.

SUNDAY GOSPEL: John 21:1-19 “ Jesus asks Peter three times, “Do you love me?” Each time Peter answers him in the affirmative, Jesus give him an action in which to show his love: feed my lambs, tend my sheep, feed my sheep. Next Sunday we will hear from Chapter 10 of John’s gospel where Jesus proclaims, “I am the good shepherd.” Now Jesus calls on Peter to continue his work. He might have denied Jesus three times during the passion, but now, in his proclamation of love, Peter is called to serve Jesus by serving those Jesus loved, by feeding and tending the lambs of the Good Shepherd.

• Who are the sheep Jesus is sending me to feed and care for?

• Where do I find nourishment to help me fulfill his mandate?

TALENT Talent is wanting something bad enough to work for it. —Anonymous

PASTOR’S CORNER: People often say to me, “Father you are moving me out of my comfort zone!” And they are usually saying it with a tone of trepidation rather than excited anticipation. I will admit that they are correct. I know that I am inviting them to step out of what is comfortable in their life to an experience of a fuller life. As of late, I have recognized that I too have been struggling to move out of my comfort zone. Having experienced many significant changes in life recently, I am wanting to just sit still and be left alone, rather than stepping out into something more. In chapter 14 of Matthew Kelly’s book “The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity,” he writes: “Our dirty little secret is: we don’t want our lives to be

transformed.” Transformation is not easy, smooth or even painless. And yet our Resurrection faith calls us to continual transformation. God has a mission for us and all he asks is that we be available. “Like the miracle of the loaves and the fishes, we bring the little we have and God does the rest. Availability is what God looks for in the resume of our hearts. How available are you to God at this time in your life?” p.101. In the Eucharist we are strengthened for the journey but we are also transformed into what we receive, the Body and Blood of Christ. The Eucharist transforms us but we have to cooperate and be willing to be transformed. The Eucharist is powerful and maybe that is why attendance at Mass is declining. We are not comfortable being transformed. There are a million excuses we can use but the underlying excuse, if we are truthful with ourselves, is that we don’t want to move out of our comfort zone. But the life of following Jesus is a life constantly moving out of our comfort zone to a fuller and richer experience of life. This weekend pray for our First Communion children, but also witness to them a life of transformation that comes from the Eucharist This weekend we welcome to the Eucharistic Table for the first time the following children: Dax Cassell Kellen DeSimone Noah DiFranco Jackson Hamm Tatum Holzhauer Ty Holzhauer Lila Hoover Carter Keenan Corinne Lamb Quintin Mariner Jacob Myers Anthony Passerrello Noah Rivera Colby Sapienza Carter Schade Jack Schade Joseph Snyder Logan Webb Maeve White Emily Whitesel Jameson Yuronich

STEWARDSHIP CORNER: In today's Gospel reading, we heard, “Peter was distressed that Jesus had said to him a third time, ‘Do you love me?’ and he said to him, ‘Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my sheep.’” (JOHN 21:17) All of us are challenged to show our love for Jesus and others. Discern how God is calling you to be his steward by using your time in prayer, your talent in charitable works and your treasure to assist those who in need. Remember that giving is an act of worship and helps advance the mission of our parish and greater Church. FAMILY FAITH FORMATION: In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus’ friends are fishing when someone calls out to them and tells them to lower their nets again. They catch many fish! This helps the disciples recognize that Jesus is the one calling to them. Jesus makes them breakfast and eats with them. Question of the Week: How do you recognize Jesus in other people? In the Mass? In some other way? Family Prayer: Help us to recognize the physical and emotional needs of others and to “feed” them when they need nourishment and encouragement. JOYFUL HEARTS: As our Hearts have turned to joy this Easter, we can continue to show Christ’s love to others through “Joyful Hearts”. In the welcome area will be a display of paper hearts, each heart will have an item for you to donate. If you wish to participate please take a heart, buy the item and return it to the chest. This will continue though the Easter season until Pentecost. Items purchased will support programs that the Helping Hands Ministry run, along with programs that other church organization support. The Helping Hands Ministry runs a food pantry that provides to 30 families a month, the Back Pack Club that provides weekend food for 200 Midview students, a Community Meal, monetary assistance and other programs. FREE DIABETES CLASS: Were you just diagnosed or know someone who was diagnosed with diabetes? Come join us May 16th - June 20th for a free Diabetes Self-Management workshop, sponsored by Fairhill Partners of Cleveland. We will help you understand ways to control your blood sugar through diet and exercise; assist you in understanding you new treatments and ways to communicate with you doctor. Come join us Thursday’s from 1:00pm - 3:30pm in Room 2 of the parish hall. Free material and snacks will be provided. To register call Sue at 440-926-1610.

MEN’S FAITH SHARING: All men are invited to a time of prayer and reflection on Sunday, May 19th at 6:00pm in the parish hall. This informal gathering is an opportunity to grow in our faith as well as experience support from other men of faith.
