  • Oh, by the way,

    Eucharistia… thankfulness; the giving

of thanks Thursday is Thanksgiving Day in America, what a day to give

thanks to God for all the blessings He has bestowed on us. Our primary

thanks is to God! Make the effort to join with our faith family to

celebrate! Without the Eucharist, nothing is of value. Eucharist will be

celebrated at 9:00 a.m., St. Peter.

In your homes, consider praying this prayer on Thursday (and

why not every day) from the Book of Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers!

    Lord, we thank you

for the goodness of our people

and for the spirit of justice

    that fills this nation.

We thank you for the beauty and fullness of the

land and the challenge of the cities.

We thank you for our work and our rest,

for one another, and for our homes.

    We thank you, Lord:

accept our thanksgiving on this day.

We pray and give thanks through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Next week-end, the Universal Church celebrates The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the

Universe. Formerly referred to as "Christ the King", this Solemnity was established by Pope Pius XI in 1925 as

an antidote to secularism, a way of life which leaves God out of man's thinking and living and organizes his life

as if God did not exist. The feast is intended to proclaim in a striking and effective manner Christ's royalty over

individuals, families, society, governments, and nations.

The Mass for this Solemnity establishes the titles for Christ's royalty

over men: 1) Christ is God, the Creator of the universe and hence wields a

supreme power over all things; "All things were created by Him"; 2) Christ is

our Redeemer, He purchased us by His precious Blood, and made us His

property and possession; 3) Christ is Head of the Church, "holding in all things

the primacy"; 4) God bestowed upon Christ the nations of the world as His special possession and dominion.

This Mass for the Solemnity also describes the qualities of Christ's kingdom. This kingdom is: 1)

supreme, extending not only to all people but also to their princes and kings; 2) universal, extending to all

  • nations and to all places; 3) eternal, for "The Lord shall sit a King forever"; 4) spiritual, Christ's "kingdom is not

of this world." — Rt. Rev. Msgr. Rudolph G. Gandas

Before the reform of the Roman Calendar in 1969, this feast was celebrated on the last Sunday of

    October.

Christ’s lordship over the universe is commemorated in various ways in feasts of the liturgical year,

including the Epiphany, Easter, and the Ascension. The Church wishes to highlight even more clearly Christ’s

sovereignty over all creation, including human history.

Jesus’ reign, as the liturgy of the Mass underlines, is a regnum veritatis et vitae; regnum sanctitatis et

gratiae; regnum iustitiae, amoris et pacis. Truth, life, holiness, grace, justice, love and peace: these are the

values for which the human heart most longs, and we Christians can contribute to bringing them about. We can

do so especially through works of mercy done for the most needy, as the gospel for this feast in Year A tells

us. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you

    made me welcome.

Nevertheless, Jesus himself warned us, my kingdom is not of this world. His sovereignty will be seen in

its fullness at his second coming in glory, when there will be new heavens and a new earth, and all

creatures, free from the slavery of sin, will serve and never cease to praise him. Now is the time of expectation,

of working for his kingdom, confident that the final victory will be his.

Incense will be used at designated Liturgies.

On 26 November 2018, all clergy of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana will

attend an all-day planning and visioning meeting. In an effort to be more forward-

looking, the Bishop will be pulling all priests of the diocese together for discussions and

conversations that will help the Diocese map out a strategic plan and vision for the next

5-10 years. This meeting is required for priests, and deacons are invited to attend if

there is no conflict with their professional obligations.

Practicing Catholics? Many have been teaching and showing various aspects of the Catholic faith within our

Cluster communities, many good; some not so good. What is not good? From observations, there is an interesting challenge for MORE catechesis! (Yet I know at times I’m preaching to the choir!) And all of it is what HAS BEEN SHOWN (OR RATHER NOT SHOWN) over the past year. Since 1 January 2018, excluding Sundays (which are Holy Days of Obligations), there have been two (2) Holy Days of Obligation: 15 August (Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary) and 1 November, (Solemnity of All Saints). Attendance? For both of those two (2) Holy Days, one (1) Mass would have been sufficient (either St. Joseph or St. Peter) and neither worship space would have been close to capacity! Taking that into consideration, the question arises: would only one (1) Mass, or maybe two (2) Masses), for the next three (3) Holy Days of Obligation: 8 December--Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary; 25 December—Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord and 1 January-- Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, be feasible? Numbers reflect the reason. Just saying….

The New Year is coming in two (2) weeks! New year, new hymnals. Need a hymnal,

please feel free to use one AND RETURN IT after Mass! As previously stated, St. Francis

has been doing this for years…and it works well…and the savings is nice! Just like putting your

host in the paten, this will take a few weeks of adjustment for some. After a few weeks, this

    becomes second nature.

Quick one-liners for you: ●Inserted this weekend in St. Peter’s bulletins is a Parish Survey. The purpose of the survey is to give feedback to the Parish Council. You are asked to please fill out the survey and return it to the parish office via mail or the collection basket. You will notice that no personal information is asked on the survey, your answers will remain confidential. The Council is looking for honest answers from our Parish family. Stapled to each survey is a removable sheet of paper where you may volunteer for some ministries that you are interested in. Please leave your name and phone number on this sheet. It may also be placed into the collection basket. The surveys are asked to be returned within the next couple of weeks. You may also find the surveys on the Cluster website if you do not get one at Mass this weekend. Questions? Please see any Council member or contact the Cluster Office.

●St. Peter’s will have a second collection for the Improvement fund next weekend, November 24 & 25th at both Masses. Envelopes may be found in the pews. Thank you for your generosity.
