SUMMER SEMINARIAN
Once again, St Augustine’s Seminary has sent one of its
seminarians to spend the summer at our parish. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to offer encouragement to a young man who has chosen to dedicate his life to the service of the Church. His name is Eduardo Manuel López López, who is studying to become a priest for the Diocese of Memphis in Tennessee. Originally from the state of Zacatecas, México, he is 28, and the oldest of five children. His parents live in a little town called Dulce Grande in San Luis Potosi, México. This is how he introduces himself:
When I was three years old, my great-aunt decided to take care of me; her name is Socorro (which means “help”). She was living with her elderly father, my great-grandfather, who died two years after I had moved to her house. Then, I became the only company of Aunt Socorro in a big house full of interesting things to discover. Aunt Socorro was the person who taught me to pray and to love our Blessed Lady, and was perhaps the most important influence on my life. I think she watered, with her prayers and deeds, the seed that the Lord put in my heart, which is my vocation.
After first communion, I was chosen to become an altar server. At that time, I used to play that I was celebrating Mass with my friends. My mother and Aunt Socorro were sure that I would become a priest, although later they weren’t so sure when I turned teenager.
I have always said that I love the church, and perhaps my interest in sacred music was the thing with which the Lord engaged me to be close to Him. Several priests and lay people invited me to consider entering to the seminary, but I always said no; I was afraid. But then, one day, the Lord faced me and asked me, just as He did with Peter, if I loved him. This happened at the beginning of the Year of Faith. I was living in Memphis when the Lord again called me in a laud voice through the pastor of the parish I attended and the Hispanic community there. I started praying regularly before the Blessed Sacrament, asking the Lord for light.
On Palm Sunday, 2012, I met two seminarians for the diocese of Memphis, and we had a short conversation about their studies in the seminary. My concern had always been whether I could manage the studies, because I had never been a good student, but as the seminarians say: “The Lord will provide.” I realized that this meeting was the sign I had been asking for, and I began talking with my spiritualdirector about my vocation. He suggested me that the priesthood is perhaps the way I have to love the church concretely. Now, I have been in the seminary for three years, two years in Mexico and one in St Augustine’s. I will start Theology next year, and honestly, I am very happy doing what I am doing. I think entering the seminary was the best decision I ever made.
THE HOLY TRINITY
The Church teaches us that although there is only one God, yet, somehow, there are three Persons in God. The Father is God, the Son is God, the Holy Spirit is God, yet we do not speak of three Gods, but only one God. They have the same nature, substance, and being.
Even though the Three Persons are One God, yet they are distinct: for the Father has no origin, He came from no one.But the Son is begotten, He comes from the Father alone. The Holy Spirit comes or proceeds from both the Father and the Son. These different relations of origin tell us there are three distinct Persons, who have one and the same divine nature.
And even though everything the Three Persons do outside the Divine nature is done by all Three, yet it is suitable that we attribute some works specially to one or the other Person. So we speak of the Father especially as the power of creation, of the Son as the wisdom of the Father, of the Holy Spirit as goodness and sanctification.
The two doctrines of the Trinity and the Incarnation are the foundation of Christian life and worship. By becoming man, God the Son offered us a share in the inner life of the Trinity. By grace, we are brought into the perfect communion of life and love which is God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This sharing in the life of the Trinity is meant to culminate in heaven, where we will see the three Persons face to face, united to them in unspeakable love.
CONFIRMATION
Confirmation will take place on Saturday, June 17th at the 5 pm Mass followed by light refreshments in the hall. Our presider will be the Most Reverend Bishop Vincent Nguyen.

THE MOST HOLY TRINITYJUNE 11, 2017
RReflection In the context of today’s Gospel, it focuses on the mystery of the Holy Trinity, the reading calls our attention to the action of God, who reveals himself in three persons: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God the Father, out of love for the world, sent his Son into the world in order to save it. Through the death and resurrection of the Son, we have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit. As three persons, God acts always as a God of love; he does not condemn the world but acts to save it.
The Gospel also calls attention to the response that is required of us. God’s love for us calls us to respond in faith
by professing our belief in God’s son, Jesus, and the
salvation that he has won for us. This profession of faith is a sign of the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
