PARISH PROJECTS

As good stewards of your generosity, the Facilities Team provides you regular updates on St. Matthew campus projects, improvements and ongoing initiatives.

The Apse (area behind altar) beautification is nearingcompletion. We are halfway through a 12-step process of painting stone on the back wall. Getting the proper lighting will bethefinalstepbeforethecurtainscanberemoved.

The latticework murals are in the final layout stage beforebeing painted on canvas. The four canvas paintings will be mounted to sign board sheets cut to fit the latticeworkopenings. This phase will not require curtains. When the paintings are completed and mounted, we will be able to remove the latticework and immediately replace it with the mural. The mounting boards for the two sides are ready for the canvas paintings. The challenge now is making templates for the upper center areas which cannot be reached with the baldiccino (structure over the Tabernacle) in place. Removal of some of the baldiccino (even temporarily) may have a couple of advantages; it would provide access to install the upper latticework paintings and this would provide everyone a clear, breath-taking view of the entire Apse. We will keep you posted on decision.

With school being closed two days last week, we were able to get contractors in to better understand the scope of work to be completed this summer on the Hutta kitchen. We were also able to do some carpet cleaning in the School Library.

We are excited to bring you these updates and we welcome suggestions for facilities improvement. Please contact George Harvey at [email protected].

ASH WEDNESDAY MASS TIMES – Ash Wednesday is March 6 and the Mass times are: 6:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m. (with the School) and 7:00 p.m.

KNITTING CROCHETING MINISTRY – THREAD NEEDED – Our Knitting and Crocheting Ministry also sews hundreds of fleeceblankets each year for babies, youth and the elderly. ST. MATTHEW SCHOOL CAFETERIA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – The St. Matthew School cafeteria is in need of several volunteers to help with prepping food and serving lunches to the school children. Help is needed from 9:00-11:00 a.m. to assist with prep such as: cutting fruits and vegetables, making salads, and assisting employees to prepare foods to be served that day. They need the most help during the serving time from 11:20 a.m.-12:45 p.m., which also would include cleanup that goes until 1:20 p.m. They would like to have one (1) volunteer each morning for prep and 4-6 volunteers each during serve/clean time. Anyone can volunteer as long as you have completed a background check, fingerprinting, and taken the Protecting God’s Children safe environment seminar. PREPARE FOR LENT BY ENTHRONING THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS IN YOUR HOME

“In the Heart of the Redeemer we adore God’s love for humanity, His will for universal salvation, His infinite mercy.” – Pope Benedict XVI

Throughout the Diocese, hundreds of families have enthroned the Sacred Heart of Jesus in their homes and have come to know more deeply the Heart of the Redeemer.

Among the 12 promises Jesus made to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque during her visions of the Sacred Heart in the 1670s, He said, “I will bless every place in which an image of my Heart is exposed and honored. I will establish peace in their homes. Iwillcomforttheminalltheirafflictions.”

Whocouldpassupanofferlikethat?

As we look ahead just a few weeks to the penitential season of Lent, what could be a better way to prepare your family than to EnthronetheSacredHeartinyourhome?

For an Enthronement, here is all that is asked of you:

1. Schedule a visit from a Sacred Heart Missionary team. Thefirst visit involvesan introduction to thedevotion, placing the Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart images in a suitable location, and the recitation of certain prayers including the Rosary and the Litany of the Sacred Heart. The visit lasts about an hour.

2. For the next seven days, as a family, recite the same series of prayers before the images.

3. On the eighth day, the Missionary team returns and witnesses the enthronement, wherein you “enthrone”the images in a permanent location of prominence in your home.

It really is as simple as that.

To schedule your Enthronement of the Sacred Heart, go to www.sacredheartcolumbus.org,orcontactoneofourParish’sSacred Heart Missionary teams, Frank and Judeen Hartge at [email protected] or Mark and Beth Huddy at [email protected].

The hours are 2:00-6:00 p.m.,Monday-Friday(butcanbeflexible),andfollowtheschoolcalendar. The hourly pay rate is $12.50. Requirements include: BCI and FBI background check and completion of the VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children Safe Environment seminar. For more information or to express interest in this position, please contact Susan Maloy at [email protected].

THE 2019 FESTIVAL PLANNING COMMITTEE NEEDS YOU! Planning is well underway for the 2019 St. Matthew Parish Festival. The Festival Committee has a few open slots, and we need your help!
