Ceremony. The flags of Lithuania, Guam, Singapore, Eritrea and the Dominican Republic were raised during the Ceremony.
Before the Raising of the Flags there was a performance by the London Youth Theatre Group dressed as Elizabethan Court
Jesters inviting the Representatives into the Olympic Village. The Head of the Lithuanian Olympic Committee, Algirdas
Raslanas, presented the Olympic Village Mayor Tessa Jowell with an amber map of Lithuania in thanks for the Lithuanian
athletes being able to compete in London, and as a thank you for the Lithuanian team coming to England, Mayor Jowell
presented Mr Raslanas with a silver postcard on London. Then the Lithuanian flag was raised by representatives of the
British Armed Forces whilst the Lithuanian National Anthem played. Mr Raslanas was invited to sign the Olympic Peace
Wall, which represents the Olympic Truce. The Truce allows for, during times of conflict, Olmypians safe passage to the
Games, and serves now as a reminder the bring Peace through Sport. The Ceremony was attended by the Lithuania
Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Oscar Jusys, Lituanica Representatives and Members of the Olympic Team.
