The Official Raising of theFlags CeremonyLituanica Representatives visited the London Olympic Village on the 24th July 2012, for the Official Raising of the Flag

Ceremony. The flags of Lithuania, Guam, Singapore, Eritrea and the Dominican Republic were raised during the Ceremony.

Before the Raising of the Flags there was a performance by the London Youth Theatre Group dressed as Elizabethan Court

Jesters inviting the Representatives into the Olympic Village. The Head of the Lithuanian Olympic Committee, Algirdas

Raslanas, presented the Olympic Village Mayor Tessa Jowell with an amber map of Lithuania in thanks for the Lithuanian

athletes being able to compete in London, and as a thank you for the Lithuanian team coming to England, Mayor Jowell

presented Mr Raslanas with a silver postcard on London. Then the Lithuanian flag was raised by representatives of the

British Armed Forces whilst the Lithuanian National Anthem played. Mr Raslanas was invited to sign the Olympic Peace

Wall, which represents the Olympic Truce. The Truce allows for, during times of conflict, Olmypians safe passage to the

Games, and serves now as a reminder the bring Peace through Sport. The Ceremony was attended by the Lithuania

Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Oscar Jusys, Lituanica Representatives and Members of the Olympic Team.

Gifts for the Olympic TeamDirector of Lituanica UK Ltd Rolandas Sakauskas along with his wife Ruta, and the managing Director Rasa Apostol,

Communications Manager Vladas Linauskas and Advertising Manager Irma Maciulyte, attended the Gift Giving Ceremony

on the Olympic Village.

Mr Sakauskas presented the gift of a 3 x 5m Lithuanian Flag, in honour of the Athletes, and as a sign of patriotism to the

Olympic Team. Along with the flag Mr Sakauskas wished the team the best of luck during the Games and hopes that they

will come back from the Games successful.

The Lithaunia Olympic Team visits Lituanica RestaurantAfter an amazing Olympic Games the Lithuanian Team and all the people involved in the organising and care of the team,

visited the Lituanica Restaurant. Some the best Lithuanian dishes such as Potato Pancakes and Cepelinai were served, giving

the Olympians the best taste of home, whilst there was a broadcast of Olympic Gold Medalist Ruta Meilutyte’s return

ceremony to Vilnius.
