View From The ChairHello everyone. This year is certainly moving on apace and I really can’t believe we are now already in the month of May!

Ladies’ Day by Amanda Whittington was our second play for this year and what a wonderful, funny and indeed poignant production it was. This play was also entered into the Kent Drama Association’s full length play festival for 2018 and adjudicated by Amanda Sharpe-Conroyat the Wednesday performance.

I thought the whole cast which included some new members and very welcome they were too gave a thoroughly good evening’s entertainment. From the fish factory where life was rather humdrum to the excitement of the races at Ascot (in Yorkshire) and the final fluke of winning half a million pounds, you almost felt they really had won by their pure joy at the end of the last act.

Many thanks to all involved and congratulations to the director,Shelagh Scarborough.

On Friday 27th April we hosted Martin Farbrother’s 10th anniversary concert which included his guest singer Hollie Firmin. The sell-out concert was very well received with requests that he will hopefully make a return visit.

I would advise you that our Company Secretary, Paul Bergman, after some consideration has decided to resign from the position. On behalf of the board I wish to thank him for his valuable contribution but particularly for his work on the presentation and distribution of the newsletter over recent years.

I would also advise that Philip Robinson will be joining us taking on the position of Company Secretary and we wish him well. This is a position that Philip has held previously.

Don’t forget to keep up with what’s going on by visiting our website: hernebaylittletheate.com and we look forward to seeing you at our next production ‘Entertaining Angels’ in June.

With best wishes

Tony Jose

Drama NewsDear everyone, didn’t we have a wonderful week!!! Ladies’ Day was enthusiasticallyreceived by our faithful audiences and the cast had a fantastic time. For those who did not venture backstage during the show the assembly line for crates of fish going on stage and boxes of fish coming off and being recycled for another turn was something to behold. Truly team spirit and working as an ensemble. This was also picked up by Amanda Sharpe-Conroy,the Adjudicator for the Kent Drama Association Festival. She was very complimentary in her comments to the director, cast and crew. She also made specific enthusiastic remarks about the set, sound and lighting. So fingers crossed for a good result! We also welcomed some new members to the Club and we hope we will see them all again soon. A special mention should be made for Shelagh Scarborough who took over the directing of this play at short notice and obviously it was not her choice of play. She hit the ground running and was extremely successful in bringing her cast and crew together and this fabulous play to the stage.

Our next production is Entertaining Angelsby Richard Everett directed by Dick Langridge. Vicar’s wife, Grace, has suddenly decided that it is about time she stopped being ‘the vicar’s wife’ and has discovered a voice of her own, which she has no hesitation in sharing with the new vicar, her visiting sister Ruth, her daughter Jo and a very unexpected visitor!!!

This is a witty and sharp-edged comedy handling subjects as controversial as marriage and God, so book your tickets soon. This production will be 11 - 16 June, 2018.

Audition notices for On Golden Pond by Ernest Thompson director Marc Hamilton have gone out for 2.30 pm Sunday 6 May 2018. This is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty-eighth year. They are visited by their divorced, middle-aged daughter and her dentist fiancé, who then go off to Europe, leaving his teenage son behind for the summer. After some disgruntled and humorous toing and froing the boy becomes the “grandchild” and as Norman revels in taking his ward fishing and thrusting good books at him, he also learns some lessons about modern teenage awareness and relationships. In the end the summer wanes and so does their brief idyll in the final, deeply moving moments of the play.

We all look forward to seeing you in the audience for our plays. Don’t forget that if you would like to join in, directing, acting, backstage, front of house, do let us know. It is a wonderful theatre to be involved with and you will receive a very warm welcome.

Best wishes
