    Using white cast on 48 sts.

    Knit 2 rows.

    Change to Red yarn

    K19, K2tog, K6, K2tog, K to end. Turn

    Knit one row even.

    Materials: Sport-weight yarn Baby Sport Econo (100% acrylic, 700 yards per 7 oz.

    skein) by Coats and Clark: 1 skein #1047 Candy Print. Knitting needles size 6 (4mm) or

    whatever size needed to get correct gauge; crochet hook, 1/2 yard of 1/4" elastic, 3/4"

    yard of 3/4" elastic; Six 3/8" buttons.

    Gauge: 20 sts and 27 rows = 4" in St st. To save time, take time to check your gauge.

    *Yarn requirements suggested in this leaflet are adequate. If you make any adjustments in

    length or width, or if your stitch gauge differs from the recommendation, then the yarnamount may not be sufficient.

    Bloomers

    FrontCast on 13 sts. Beg with a k row, work 6 rows in St st (k on RS, p on WS). Then cast on

    Beg Back Shaping: Rows 1and 2: Work to last 8 sts, turn, leaving rem sts unworked.

    Rows 3 and 4: Work to last 16 sts, turn, leaving rem sts unworked.

    Rows 5 and 6: Work to end. Work 9 rows even, then bind off all sts.

    Finishing

    Sew side seams and crotch seam. With crochet hook, work edging around legs as follows:join yarn at seam, *sc, ch 3, skip a st; rep from * around. Join with a sl st to beg. Machine

    stitch elastic around legs as follows: Measure desired length of 1/4" elastic for legopenings. Sew ends tog. Fold circle of elastic in half and mark folded ends. Fold circle in

    half, meeting marks. Mark folded ends. Elastic is now divided in 4 equal parts. Mark leg

    openings in 4 equal parts. Pin elastic on WS of legs, meeting marks on elastic with marks

    on leg opening. Stretch elastic to length of leg openings a section at a time, and zig zagover elastic.

    Waistband

    Mark 8 rows down from top and fold to inside. Sew down for casing, leaving an openingfor elastic. Insert 3/4" elastic in casing and cut to desired length for waist. Overlap ends

    and sew tog. Sew rest of casing shut.

    Dress

    FrontHem: Cast on 88 sts. Beg with a k row, work 4 rows in St st.

    Turning Row: K1, *yo, k2tog; rep from * across to last st, k1. Beg with a purl row, workin St st, dec 1 st each end every 10 rows 7 times74 sts. Work even until piece measures

    11-1/4" from turning row, ending with a RS row.

    Next row: (WS) Purl, dec 10 sts evenly spaced64 sts.

    Yoke

    Next Row: (RS) K2, *p2, k1; rep from * across to last 2 sts, k2.Next Row: P3, *k2, p1; rep from * across to last 2 sts, k2. Rep last 2 rows until yoke

    measures 4", end with a WS row.

    Shape Neck

    in St st, dec 1 st each end every 10 rows 7 times50 sts. Work even until piece measures11-1/4" from turning row, ending with a WS row. Then dec 1 st at beg of next 8 rows

    42 sts. Work even until piece measures same length as front. Bind off all sts.

    SleevesCast on 54 sts.

    Row 1: (RS) Knit.

    Row 2: Purl across all sts.

    Beg Short Row Shaping as follows: Row 3: K45, turn, leaving rem sts unworked.

    Row 4: P36, turn, leaving rem sts unworked.

    Row 5: K27, turn.

    Row 6: P18, turn.

    FinishingSmocking Front Yoke

    Thread yarn needle with a long length of yarn and weave through every 3rd row of frontyoke to mark rows for smocking. (Note: All smocking is done from RS, working from

    right to left.)

    Stitching Row 1: (RS) Beginning with the 2nd k st from the lower right edge of yoke,

    bring the yarn needle up the RS of that stitch to the first marked row. *Insert the needlefrom right to left through that k st and the first rib to the left (after the 2 p sts) and pull to

    join the ribs; rep from * once to complete a smocking st. Bring the yarn needle up thefirst rib to the next marked row and *insert the needle from right to left through the firstand 2nd rib and pull to join; rep from * once. Bring the yarn needle down the 2nd rib to

    the first marked row and smock the 2nd and 3rd rib tog. Cont as established to the end,

    being careful not to pull the yarn too tightly between smocking sts. Fasten off yarn.

    Stitching Row 2: Work as for Stitching Row 1 over the 3rd and 4th marked rows.

    Rep Stitching Rows 1 and 2 up yoke to shoulders. Pull out yarn used for marking rows.

    Shoulder Tabs

    With WS tog of front and back, mark back shoulders. With RS facing, join yarn and sc

    along one shoulder of back, ch 1, turn.Buttonhole Row: Sc across working a buttonhole at each end and in center as follows:

    ch 1, skip 1 sc1 buttonhole made. Ch 1, turn.

    Next Row: Sc in each sc and ch-1 across. Fasten off. Rep for other shoulder of back.

    Beg at lower edge, sew side seams up to yoke. Sew sleeves to front and back of yokewith center of sleeves at top of shoulders. Sew sleeve seams. Sew 3 buttons on both front

    shoulders to correspond to buttonholes on back shoulder tabs.

    Sleeve Edging
