Little Mermaid, Jr. is appearing on the Life

19
March 6, 2019 Dear Families, Lent has arrived, and we all attended Mass this morning for Ash Wednesday. Fr. Paul provided thoughtful reminders about the meaning of these weeks. He even suggested that a worthwhile fast for students might be less time with electronic devices, and more time interacting with people. Not a bad idea for students, or even adults! Coming this Friday and Saturday ~ Little Mermaid, Jr. is appearing on the Life Center stage. If you have never seen one of our Drama presentations, they are not your typical elementary school shows- come witness the singing, the dancing, the talent! Don’t miss your opportunity to see this performance in its limited engagement. The Auction, though two months away, will be here quickly! Thank you to those who have already supported the school through sponsorships, and all are invited to become a Sponsor or Donor. A Sponsorship, while helping the school, provides advertising to a wide audience of potential customers. All donated items or services benefit each student of SPXS. Last week I expressed hope that the arrival of March would also signal the arrival of spring. Instead, it seems that Mother Nature flipped a switch and turned winter “on”! Unfortunately, that means we missed out on the trip to the New Bedford Symphony. Money for the trip will be refunded by the classroom teachers by Friday. We are hopeful that we can participate in this experience next year. God bless each of you during Lent. Anne Dailey Principal

Crusader Spotlight Mr. Sandro Correa

Mr. Correa is head of maintenance and facilities at our school, which means he is basically in charge of “keeping our school running.” He has loved being a part of SPXS for the past 13 years because of the positive work environment and solid community he is surrounded by on a daily basis. Just as school releases every summer, Mr. Correa celebrates his birthday on June 20. When he is not working at SPXS, Mr. Correa can be found watching movies or reading. His favorite book is The Biggest Seller in the World. Mr. Correa said “that particular book had a large influence on preparing me for the future”. If Mr. Correa is not at home relaxing, he would love to be enjoying duck with orange sauce at the Scargo Cafe. Mr. Correa was born and raised in Pitangui, Brazil. He has four siblings, 1 brother and 3 sisters. Did you know Mr. Correa is a twin? In school, he really enjoyed his science classes the best. That would definitely explain Mr. Correa’s amazing talent with engineering. He can fix anything! When asked who Mr. Correa considers to be his role model, he did not hesitate. “My mother. She was so hardworking and independent.”

DO YOU WANT TO BE A YOUTH LECTOR?

A Lector is the person who reads the Old Testament Reading and the New Testament Reading at each Mass. We usually refer to them as the first and second reading. You have probably noticed that here at St. Pius we usually have young people as the Lector at 9:00 Mass.

There will be two information/training sessions for anyone in Grade 6 or higher who would like to be a Youth Lector at the 9:00 Mass. They will take place in the Church.

This will take place on March 11 and March 18 from 4:30-5:30pm. You only need to attend one session.

To be a Lector:

You must be able to read loud and clear.

You must be willing to practice your reading ahead of time.

You must dress appropriately for Mass.

You must understand that this is a Ministry and an important part of the celebration of the Eucharist.

Each Lector will:

Have a copy of the readings

Have a list of other Lectors to call in an emergency

Have time to practice and understand the duties of a lector

TO RESPOND -- PLEASE CALL 508-394-0709 OR EMAIL [email protected]
