The Gospel According to Greg
Greg Taylor [email protected]
Sunday launched our brand new sermon series on the
Holy Spirit – week one looking at the concept of God’s “Presence” in our lives through the Holy Spirit. If you
missed the message, let me challenge you to listen to it online at www.clintonfcc.com, or to at least spend some time with the manuscript and/or power point file – both
can be found at our website in the sermon section under “sermon player.” I’ve also “opened up” my blog to receive your questions, comments and suggestions as we move
through this series together. The address for the blog is www.gregtaylorfcc.wordpress.com.
I also wanted to share with you the plans for the final four messages:
5/8: Sermon 2 - THE PREGNANCY (Mother's
Day) -- a sermon based on Mary's pregnancy conceived by the Spirit as a pointer to a new kind of life, new kind of way of being human in Jesus.
5/15: Sermon 3 - THE POWER -- a sermon based on the gifts of the Holy Spirit given in power for the
edification of God's church working together to build a stronger body - a clinic on the book of Acts,
beginning with the day of Pentecost and looking at several chapters that follow. They were meeting together, they were praying, they were studying,
there was belief. (5/22: CLASS Act kids performance during both
services)
The Gospel According to Greg (cont’d)
5/29: Sermon 4 - THE PRODUCE -- a sermon
based on the fruit of the Spirit, developing virtue and character in the life of a Christian as displayed in
the characteristics of the fruit. *** One service on May 29 @ 9:30 a.m. ***
6/5: Sermon 5 - THE PREPARATION -- a sermon based on the work of the Spirit doing its sanctifying work in our lives as a goal for our future life with
Christ, a seal anticipating His coming.
I’m meeting with five other preachers each week to study and write together and I’m thankful for each of them: Mark Weber – Mt. Pulaski CC; Scott Zorn – Tuscola FCC;
Steve Higgs – Northwest CC in Decatur; Lloyd Johnson – Moweaqua FCC; Ed Bacon – Mt. Zion CC. Please lift these
brothers up in prayer as we study together and as they present these sermons in their churches.
Finally, the month of May brings some special Sundays each year, and I know you will NOT want to miss any of these events:
May 8 – end of the year Adult choir program
May 15 – Take Me Out to the Ballgame Sunday and Graduate recognition Sunday May 22 – CLASS Acts kids program
May 29 – one service Sunday @ 9:30 a.m. and Remembrance Sunday
June 5 – congregational meeting at the end of each
service for the purpose of affirming those men recommended to serve as Elder at FCC.
Have a great week – see you Sunday!

When our souls prosper, we flourish on the inside. We are at peace; we are full of joy; we are content; we live with a sense of destiny and purpose; we are growing spiritually; we have strong, loving relationships with others. God is a God of abundance and He wants us to live abundant lives. Jesus came so we could have and also enjoy life in abundance and to the full. “….I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10 Finally, we’ll have our friend Carol McFeeter Thompson from Weldon Springs with a program explaining the wonders of Nature on the 20th of May. Then on June 1st we’ll enjoy a program we’ve wanted for a long time - no one other than Marcia Wise. Be sure to come for a sweet blessing! On the 15th we’ll enjoy Kathy Brake singing and playing the piano in the style of Rick Roy. It will be fun and exciting. “Friendship is love with understanding.” Ancient Proverb On the 19th of May we’ll travel to Moline for a fun day of fellowship on the Celebration River Boat for a cruise and to the sound of big band music of an era past. June will lead us to Sullivan’s Little Theater for a production of “Cats.” Then July we’ll have a fun day at the Beef House with songs from Broadway. August we’ll lead us to the Myer’s Dinner Theater in Hillsboro, IN, to see Show Boat. Kimmswick, MO, is our destination in September. Mystery is our trip in October. We’ll be off to Branson in November for a fun little vacation with music and wonderful food. “I have been driven many times to my knees by the over whelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go.” Abraham Lincoln To be at peace with God we must try to obey Him to be the best of our ability. We will not arrive at perfection while we are fleshly bodies, but we can have a perfect heart toward God and try our best every day to please Him. See, inquire for, and crave peace and pursue it.

VBS CORNER: When Shake-It-Up Café starts on June 13 the young
people will be learning about the mission project for this year, Haitian
Christian Outreach. One of the primary areas of service is their
ministry to children by meeting their educational, spiritual and
physical needs. They provide schooling for 2500 children including
funds for meals and healthcare. Each day the young people will hear a
video message from Ro Ro Eustache, a native of Haiti, lead missionary
and co-founder of the outreach program. Also, during the week both
Mac Burberry, who does administrative leadership for the work, and
Steve Collins will be here to visit with the kids.
Our offering will be two-fold. All money that is given will go
for providing meals for the children, which mostly consist of rice and
beans. While providing for the children of Haiti we want to also
provide for children here in Clinton. Therefore, we are having ‘A Can
a Day’ project. All the children will be asked to bring just one can
each day of fruit, soup, veggies, or meal in a can such as spaghetti.
You will receive more information later.
Breakfast Club meets Friday at 7:15 am.
The last meeting will be May 20.

CAMPING AT LITTLE GALILEE Here are some of the comments that Little Galilee campers have said about
their week of camp. “This was the best week of my life.” “I can’t wait until
summer gets here so I can go back to Little Galilee.” “I didn’t realize how
much Jesus loves me until now.” “I wish I could stay forever.” We believe
that the time spent at Little Galilee will be one of the highlights of their
summer. We do our best to see that all campers have a fun, safe time while
they are at Little Galilee learning about Jesus. Our goal is to draw all people
closer to God because of the time spent here.
We are asking you to join us in PRAYER this Thursday, May 5th
for the COPE mission, Children of Pokot Education, Kenya, Africa. Ask
God if He would also have you fast for part or all of the day as you pray.
God asks his people to fast “to loose the bonds of wickedness, to
undo the heavy burdens, to set the oppressed free, and break every
yoke.” Isaiah 58:6 NKJV
~~ Barb plans to meet with the community leaders May 6th at 10 am to
see what they perceive to be the biggest needs there and what resources
the community has to meet them...
~~ Please mark your calendars and pray this Thursday, May 5th for this
meeting (it will be 2 am our time the 6th, just in case some of you want to
get up in the night to intercede for her during the meeting).
~~ Witch doctors and curses are unfortunately something Barb faces over
there - pray for protection over Barb, her home, the mission, the school,
the Pokot people... pray for the people to turn from witchcraft and evil to
the Lord Jesus Christ...
~~ Pray for husbands who are beating their wives, for conviction, a soften-
ing of their hearts, for them to choose God's ways over the evil traditional
ways.
~~ Pray for life to be honored and cherished, for abortion to be abolished,
for the girls forced into abortions (all too often at the hands of substandard
medical care... and dying from it).
~~ Barb flies out of Kenya on May 14th to arrive in states May 16th. She
asks that we pray for her trip to Nairobi and flight out because Kenya is on
high alert for terrorist attacks, possibly even more so since Bin Laden's
death.
I send these on to you with tears in my eyes and a heavy heart for the
strongholds satan has in Kenya among the precious Pokot people...
We must cover Barb in PRAYER. Please call on your prayer warrior friends to
join us in prayer.
Trusting YOU JESUS to reign and rule among the Pokot, You are The
HOPE, LIGHT, TRUTH and WAY they so need!
