Annual Little International

Livestock Show

Good Morning and Welcome to the 88th Annual Little International Livestock Show!

Each year, students from the Introduction to Animal Science class are given the opportunity to experience hands- on learning by training, fitting and showing an

animal species of their choice at the Little International Livestock Show, also known as Little “I”. These students have spent many hours over the past two months working with and training their animals

to make sure they are ready for the show. During their practices, the students have gained knowledge

and developed confidence in working with and handling their animals. We are proud of how far every student has come and are pleased that you could join

us to see the product of their hard work. Little “I” is hosted by the University of Connecticut

Block and Bridle Club with help from the Department of Animal Science. This show would not be a success

without the help and support from the faculty and staff in Department of Animal Science and the

generous donations from our sponsors. On behalf of the UConn Block and Bridle Club, I would like to thank all of those who helped in the planning and execution of this event in order to make it a success! Thank you

Guest of Distinction

The UConn Block and Bridle Club would like to recognize Dr. Michael Darre as our 2017 Guest of Distinction.

Dr. Darre graduated from the University of Illinois in 1975 with a B.S. in animal science and went on to get his M.S. in Animal Physiology in 1977 and in 1981 he earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Animal Physiology. In January of 1981 he was hired by the University of Connecticut as an animal science professor. During his time at UConn he has become the Extension Poultry Specialist for Connecticut, and New England. Through this he runs many poultry programs for both youth and adult participants. In the fall of 1989 he took over the position as the professor for Intro to Animal Science, ANSC 1001. Later, in 1996, he made Little International, formally a voluntary event, mandatory for ANSC 1001 students. He is currently an advisor for the UConn Block and Bridle club and the UConn Poultry Science Club.

Besides ANSC 1001, he also teaches an animal behavior class and poultry science class.

As Dr. Darre retires this year, we would like to thank him for all of his hard work and dedication to our club and to the Animal Science Department. Thank you and Congratulations, -Members of the Block & Bridle Club
