The Trail to Little Baldy

This slide show features the pictures I took when I went on another walk in Sequoia National Park on Labor Day weekend, 2011. The trail started at the side of the General’s Highway, and led to Little Baldy, a granite dome at the top of a high mountain ridge.

The trail to Little Baldy climbed up the mountain gradually, and was not terribly difficult. It was a thickly wooded area with lush grass and evergreen trees of many varieties and ages.

At the first part of the trail you could see Big Baldy to the Northwest.

As the trail climbed higher, the view on the side reached farther.

The Monarch Butterflies criss-crossed the trail in slow motion.

As I topped the ridge, I started to see the country on the other side. Wow!

A little further and the continental divide appeard in the distance.

As I approached the dome, the beauty of Sequoia National Park flowed toward me like waves at the beach.

Almost to the top! (I had gained about 750 feet in altitude from my car.)

On a clearer day, you could see the central valley In that direction (Southwest).
