Education Week Special Edition
PRINCIPAL Congratulations to the outstanding leadership team of Lithgow High School. The outgoing leaders have been an absolute credit to the school and I wish them well for their studies over the next few months. On behalf of the staff of Lithgow High School I thank them for their efforts. I welcome our new leadership team who are a most impressive group of young women and men. I know that they will be outstanding representatives of our fine school. Their calibre is clearly indicated in the profiles they have created below to introduce themselves to the school community.
All these students are a powerful indicator of the quality of our young people in 2015, and all have great potential for the future. Well done to all.
Ann Caro
Talking with our 2015 - 16 School
Leaders
Max Arkley-Smith - Captain I like that LHS is open to all students and that anyone regardless of race, gender or socio-economic status can achieve equal education and opportunities to expand their future possibilities.
I wanted to become a school leader at LHS because I wanted to give something back to the school and the environment that have built my confidence and opened my mind. At LHS I have been privileged to complete in sporting events, star in four musicals, perform live music
and speak in debating and mock trial teams.
I have also been able to participate in many leadership activities like being a member of the SRC and helping Year 7 with reading skills. As a leader my primary goal is continue to make the school an inclusive environment.
After high school I plan on either going to University and studying architecture or becoming an officer in the Australian Defence force.
Keely Newham - Captain What I like about Lithgow High School is the wide
variety of subjects that are available to the students,
allowing every student to be able to learn and
prosper in the field they are most passionate about. I
wanted to become a school leader to give a voice to
all students in the school, no matter what their
circumstances.
Lithgow HS has given me multiple opportunities that
have allowed me to pursue some of my greatest
passions, as well as great academic opportunities,
extra circular activities such as school musicals, debating, public speaking and
school sporting teams have been a real highlight from my time as this school so
far.
I want to be able to sustain an ambitious school environment full of strong
minded students determined to be successful. As far as leadership, I hope to
represent the school well in all school events as well as introduce fun sporting
and academic activities that will maintain the student and teacher morale
around the school.
In the future my aim is to go to University but as yet I am not sure which
course.
Christopher Seymour –
Vice Captain
Lithgow High school provides many different
opportunities for the student body, which makes it a
very diverse school catering to every student’s
different interests and needs. I wanted to become a
school leader to try and not only improve the school
but the students attitude towards school.
LHS has provided me with many opportunities during my time here. I have
learnt many new things over the course of my time here, providing me with
important, valuable life skills that I will make use of for years to come. I am
particularly happy with picking up debating skills and being able to participate
in debating events and activities, including NAIDOC.
I would like to collaborate with the SRC as they represent the students and try
and make student voices heard and ideas of the students a reality. I want to try
and make the learning environment a more enjoyable place and hold more fun
days like mufti days, sport days and maybe even a colour or band day.
In the future I hope to be pursuing my passion for medicine hopefully making
lots of money, living in a fancy mansion, driving a Aston Martin, my face on
every bill board poster in the world, but to get there I have to work hard and
focus on the present so right now I don’t really see myself in the future just
what I can do now to create the future.
Holly Gibbons –Vice Captain
LHS is a great place and I chose to become a school
leader back in Year 7 because of all the amazing
leadership opportunities they provide including SRC,
Reading tutors, Environmental groups and so many
more.
LHS has presented me with such a huge variety of
opportunities that have helped me reach my full
potential within the sporting and academic culture. I’ve had the privilege to
compete in sporting teams and also debating teams. I was also a part of the
itrack program which was an awesome experience.
As every other leader has probably said, I would like to do my best to make
school more enjoyable place for everyone so that when they’re in Year 11 and
12 they can look back on their schooling life with satisfaction and be proud of
everything they have achieved.
In the future I hope to be at Uni competing a business degree. If I defer for a
year I would love to travel overseas for a year and work abroad, I know a lot of
universities do exchange programs so I want to work in the area of business
whether it be in Australia or overseas. I think being able to explore the world is
a necessity.
Isaac Trounce I like the wide variety of opportunities that are presented
to students in the school. I wanted to become a leader to
have some influence in building the student support
system within the school.
I have had the many sporting opportunities in Athletics,
Cross Country and soccer. I have also had many musical
opportunities in school including the school musical,
musical talent quests and in being a member of the studio band.
As a student leader I hope to help initiate opportunities for keen students,
sporting, musical or otherwise.
In the near future I hope to see myself studying psychology in University,
leading to a career as a psychologist or psychiatrist.
Abby Wilson
I like the positive and inviting nature of the school and
how approachable and friendly the staff and students
are. I wanted to become a school leader because I
know that it can help lead to greater opportunities
outside of school.
I have been given opportunities for sporting and
leadership such as being in the SRC, participating in
school teams like hockey, basketball, cricket, soccer, and touch football. As a
member of the SRC I have attended ANZAC marches and sold legacy badges in
Main Street.
As a student leader I would like to keep promoting the clean playground and
anti-bullying in the school. I also hope to be an approachable person, which
any student can talk to.
In the future I hopefully will be playing hockey for Australia, but school wise
going to University and studying sports and exercise science.
Bayden Charlton
As a LHS school leader I want to enable the student body to
communicate their ideas and proposals clearly and effectively.
I hope to help build whole school sporting events.
I have on many occasions been given the opportunity to
represent the school in various sporting teams including U15’s
basketball, soccer, touch football, cricket, AFL. I have also been able to
participate in Golf, martial arts, table tennis and many other sporting
programs. I have also participated in many academic and social events.
As a student leader I wish to help the students have a more positive view on
school sporting opportunities where the whole student body can be involved,
eg the swimming carnival.
In the future I hope to become an Engineer within a motorsports team. I hope
to gain early acceptance to Newcastle or Wollongong University. I am unsure
whether to take a gap year and start mechanic apprenticeship to give me a
better chance of gaining a job in motorsport. I am unsure whether to
undertake a TAFE course after year 12 or work for a mechanic; I am seeking
advice from various engineers within V8 supercar teams on gaining valuable
advice and insight.
Amy Capaldi
I like that LHS offers lots of opportunities for students and I
decided to become a school leader to help promote that.
I have enjoyed being part of the Anti-bullying roll Call/
leadership group, tutoring group and sporting teams.
As a leader I would like to make more of a difference and
positive change in the involvement of students with
activities, groups and events and to make the school more FUN and enjoyable!
In the future I hope to be doing well in my HSC and going to University and
achieving my goals.
Jarrad Pringle At LHS I really like the dedicated and caring teachers that
want to see students succeed and the excellent sporing
environment where everyone is encouraged to participate.
I wanted to be part of the leadership team to assist in
creating a safe and friendly environment for students and
to make a difference to benefit the students and the school
and to help with student-teacher relations.
The opportunities I have been given during my time have enhanced my
schooling and academics. I have enjoyed many sporting opportunities and have
made many new friends that came from other Primary schools.
As a student leader, I wish to help students in any way I can and hope to
provide more opportunities to students in all facets of school life. I will try to
come up with ways to make school enjoyable for everyone.
In the future I hopefully will achieve well in the HSC and go to university to
study in the areas of medicine or engineering (computer or biomedical).
Bonnie Goodsell I like the atmosphere of the school. It makes people
feel valued , important and happy. I wanted to become
a school leader because I wanted to create and
promote activities/initiatives that make the school even
more enjoyable, inclusive and a fun place to be.
LHS has given me opportunities to study subjects I
enjoy, be a part of leadership teams, play sport and
participate in extracurricular activities like the Marsden
visit, which has made my time at the school more enjoyable and more
productive.
As a school leader I would really like to help bring back the Youth Olympics,
create and promote activities/initiative that make the school an even better
place to be and learn.
In the future I hope to study education, business or politics at Macquarie
University and then getting a job within one of those fields.
Jarod Inzitari LHS is a very inviting school that has given me many
opportunities to achieve my dreams. LHS is always
encouraging learning.
I have been a part of many leadership roll calls including,
reading tutor, Peer Skilling, Press Club, SRC and helping to
create the new PBL system. I have also played numerous
sports for the school including soccer, touch football and cricket.
As a Year 12 student leader I would love to eradicate bullying from the school
and encourage students to achieve their goals.
As I’m not completely sure what my future holds, I would love to go to
University and go on to an exciting job.
Josana Stockdale I like the general atmosphere of the school and the
relationships I have with my teachers. I became a school
leader to be able to give back to my school and to
promote a friendly, happy environment.
LHS has given me the opportunity to participate in
programs like ixtend. I have also been involved in
leadership programs such as the tutoring roll calls and the
GRIP leadership conference, as well as sporting teams.
I will work hard to help bring back the Youth Olympics and I hope to give other
students a voice within the school.
As for the future I want to go to Uni and study forensic medicine so I can go on
and become a forensic pathologist.
