CRITICAL ANALYSIS

Colonel Muhammad Khalid Khan is a poet of sanguine sentiments and sensibilities enriched with profound personal experience. These strongly felt and internalized emotions find a natural expression in his poetry. Although he seems drugged and drowsy with the pain of living, he remains conscious of the vibes and vicissitudes that shape the events around him. That is why the passions do not cloud his consciousness, which continues to filter through the fog of feelings like beams of light. The imagery of songs and sounds, of darkening shades and half-light mystifies and beautifies his poetry at the same time. He feels caged like a bird but there is a strong urge to break it open and fly for a war into the sky where he dreams his destiny is.

However, while in the cage of life he finds strong solace and protection in his faith and love. (Preface to Feelings - Brig Dr. Safdar Ali Shah, PMA). Khan is a follower of rich traditions of classical poetry and so looks to be impressed by poets like John Donne, John Keats and Percy Bysshe Shelley. He is a true lover of God, humanity and his country, which is evident from his poems. It gives me immense pleasure to see that Khan, who has been my student, has created such a wonderful piece of work. My Department and University can be rightly proud of having students like Colonel Muhammad Khalid Khan. (Preface to Chains of Life - Professor Dr. Abdul Hafeez, AIOU). Mehr knows the art of writing poetry. His poetry is full of feelings, emotions and rhythm. His work is amalgamation of grief and sorrow, yearning and desire and fantasy and delight. His poetry pertains to his beloved.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS

His poetry is without any over embellishment and unnecessary decorations. He communicates his feelings beautifully. The language of his poetry is simple and fascinating which attracts audience. (Preface to Paba Gill - Iftikhar Arif Chairman PAL). Mehr is new to the world of humourous poetry. His work was being published in different magazines which I used to read. Now he has published a humourous Urdu poetry book and became an established member of society of humourous poets.(Preface to Anap Shanap - Dr Inam-ul-Haq Javed, AIOU)

SELECTED POEMS

FRAGNANCE OF GOD

He is like fragrance

Spread every where

One can feel his presence

Here and there

Whether huts or palaces

Whether mountains or plains

You can see him in clouds

you can find him in rains

You call and He rushes

Helps you in a test

He forgives your faults

As a friend-the best

When actions are refined

And soul is clean

Vision becomes clear

And he can be seen

His love is supreme

His fragrance is for ever

Even if we forget Him

He forgets you never

SYMPHONY

When loneliness increases and one has to cryWhen inner dissatisfaction asks one to die

when miseries of life bring more painwhen love changes into disdain

When beloved changes her pathWhen there remains only a wrath...

When one goes through helplessnessWhen depression increases more to depress

Then in that disgust I thinkI should sail before I sink

Then my Lord becomes my saviourFrom this dirty world's behaviour

I have to go back to give Him companyThis is when heartbeat becomes symphony

KILL MEKill me with your eyes so bright

Enchant me with your fragrance so charming

Keep me in your innocent sight

Embrace me with your arms so warming

Kiss me with your lips so hot

Let me caress your cheeks like life

Keep me in your bosom's knot...

Be myself and be my wife

Be like a spring, like a cherished bloom

Be like a bride in bridal room

ChainsWe are in chains

Our life is a dreamWith lot many strains

We can't screamIn clouds and rainsIn search of a beamWhich may take in...All shadowy waysAnd make it a sinWithout any crazePuppets as we are

We can't wage a warAgainst all forces

In normal discoursesBut a day will come In life troublesome

When a beam of lightMay peep in the soul

Take us to a flightWe may win a goal

We will be freeLike a bird in the skyOur bodies will dance

Our souls will flyFor God's communionIn a chain of reunion

LIFE SO SERIOUSLife is so serious, it's not fun

Stupid takes everything as a pun

Heartbeat can be felt with one on one

For sake of sincerity one has to shun

All mock desires, all that is sham

Distance may be lessened from arm to arm

Flower is flower, thorn is thorn...

When darkness vanishes, there is dawn

Take care of your soul do not mourn

Do not give away this wealth to pawn

Hatred is stronger than love cries

With oneself it should rise

To its brim and to apprise

Whether in guise or disguise

Insanity in rise disparity in influx

The weird world in un-destined bus

All placed or displaced in this circus

Rose cannot be appreciated by the cactus

Marriage of hatred with love undone

Remains in agony in scorching sun

Love cannot be borrowed with the help of gun

Nun is to the priest and priest is to none

One has to be in one's colour and form

To be an honest show and inform

For her beauty for her charm

To be too good there is no harm
