Chapter 3 puts emphasis on the importance of understanding software.

Software - an entire set of programs, procedures, and related documentation associated with a system, and especially a computer system.    *Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary

Chapter 8 puts emphasis on creating, protecting, and storing our computer information.  You will learn about privacy issues, usage, and plagiarism.

Presentation ToolsBlogs: Blog is a contraction of the term “web-log”. These sites usually consist of regularly updated entries that are commentaries, teaching tools, and descriptions of events. Blogs may include news feeds, video, music (MP3), audio (podcasts, art and photos. This type of site is similar to an on-line journal.Benefits of Blogging: ·         Makes learning independent of time and place·         Asynchronous, thus giving readers time to reflect and comment·         Learning/researching is continuous·         Improves writing competencies·         Low to no cost Podcasts: Podcasts are digital files that can be audio, video, or both. These digital recordings are syndicated via web and are available for download or immediate listening. Podcasts can be transferred to MP3 players as well. Enhanced podcasts can have images to go along with the audio. They can also have chapter markers, making it easier to skip to different portions of an episodeUses for Podcasts in Education:·         Students can listen to or download information for a class when they were absent·         Interviews ·         Documenting a field trip·         Book talks·         Presentations

  Camtasia Studio:  Camtasia Studio is a screen video capture program for Microsoft Windows.  It is published by TechSmith.  When using this program the user defines the area on the screen or the window that is to be captured before recording begins.  It is also possible to just capture the entire window area.  You can talk and use the video web cam during recording as well.  This program allows for post production editing.  Unfortunately, it is only readable by Camtasia itself.

Adobe Dreamweaver:    Check it out!

You can also use Microsoft Word to help you create your own website.  Just create it in Word and then upload.  Check out the instructions - Microsoft Word.

Chancery SMS 7.0    A great way to keep track of students.  This package allows schools to enter student information such as grades, demographics, schedules, and attendance.  Keeps all information in one place and accessable at the touch of a button.

Keynote:    Is a slide presentation software package like PowerPoint that is designed for Apple IWorks.

IWeb:    A web design software package that enables the user to desing websites.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard:    An advanced operating system for Mac computers made by Apple.

Family Lawyer

Family Lawyer Software:    Includes many software packages to help write legal documents.  Such as wills, legal documents that are needed at home and business.

This website also offers information on finding a lawyer and anything you may need to know about lawyers.  Check it out!

Microsoft Works: includes a word processor, spreadsheet, database, calendar, e-mail and internet tools all in one program. Allows you to: •  use templates to create resumes, letters and

Multimedia Authoring Software:allows user to combine text, graphics, audio, video and animation into an interactive presentation. • “Multimedia authoring involves collating,

structuring and presenting information in the form of a digital multimedia, which can incorporate text, audio, and still and moving images.”

 Freeware is software provided at no cost to a user by an individual or company.  Copyright Laws:  Created to protect and preserve work that is done and created online.   Examples of Freeware:-Mac OSX

purchased comes with a liscense of what you can and can not do with the software
