On the banks of the River Shannon, Limerick is Ireland’s thirdlargest city and home to 20,000 third level students. With almosthalf of the city’s population under thirty, Limerick possesses avibrant and youthful air. In recent times, a major redevelopmentprogramme has transformed the city but it has still managed tomaintain its warm, friendly atmosphere ensuring students enjoythe benefits of a city location, while still being able to find theirway around with ease.
Moylish Park Campus, located adjacent to Munster Rugby’sThomond Park and a five minute walk from Limerick GAA’s GaelicGrounds, is the main LIT campus. Its facilities include lecturetheatres and science labs, the LIT Student Centre, with its radiostation and games room, excellent sports facilities and ourrefurbished student canteen hub. Our innovative Campus 2030Development Plan is a major investment project that will see anadditional 50,000sq. metres of new facilities as well as extensiverefurbishment of existing facilities. It is a hugely exciting plan andwill create a significant stimulus for the Limerick and Mid-Westregion’s economy.
The Clare Street and Georges Quay Campuses house LIT’sinternationally renowned Limerick School of Art & Design(LSAD), a vibrant, living “canvas” for the creation, display andcelebration of the artistic talents of our students. It has an awardwinning reputation, including the Fashion Department listed in thetop 50 worldwide, and cutting edge creative technologies forstudent learning. LIT’s two Tipperary campuses are located in Thurles and Clonmel.
Thurles is a vibrant town and is a great, central location in whichto live and study. It boasts many cultural and recreationalfacilities, including the renowned Semple Stadium, the spiritualhome of hurling, a stone’s throw from the LIT Thurles campus. InLiberty Square is Hayes Hotel, which held the first meeting of theGAA in 1884 and still remains a popular meeting point for thethousands of GAA followers that descend on Thurles each summer.The LIT Thurles campus includes the cutting-edge LIT SportsLab,a world-standard sports strength and conditioning complex.
Clonmel campus is situated in the south of the county in theheart of the Golden Vale. With a population of almost 20,000,Clonmel boasts numerous cafés, restaurants, and lively pubs, ithas lots of amenities for students living locally. For students thatenjoy outdoor pursuits, Clonmel is ideally situated in a valleysurrounded by mountains and hills, including the Comeraghs andSlievenamon. Although the smallest of LIT’s campuses, LITClonmel provides a relaxed yet creative learning space and ishome to programmes in Business and creative mediaprogrammes Game Art and Design, Digital Animation andCreative Media & Design.

Access Service
LIT is committed to promoting equitable access to and successfulparticipation in higher education for all members of society.Through the work of the LIT Access Service, targeted strategiesand initiatives are delivered so as to facilitate entry to andsuccessful participation in higher education for underrepresentedstudents. The successful realisation of the widening participation
agenda also requires that students’ progress in their academicstudies and move into graduate employment.

Student Health Unit
A free, confidential nursing service is available to all full-timeregistered students at LIT. Institute Doctors are available tostudents at specific times. Where a nurse is available on campus,all appointments for the doctor must be made at the StudentHealth Unit through the nurse. The fee for the doctor is €10 forregistered students and free for Medical Card holders outside of a5 mile radius of LIT. Student Counselling Service
LIT offers a free, confidential and professional counsellingservice, staffed by highly qualified and experienced psychologists,psychotherapists and counsellors to all registered students. Ouraim is to provide accessible, available and student-friendlysupport for students when a personal crisis arises which affectstheir wellbeing, happiness, capacity to cope, relationships orlearning. Services include short term counselling for personalissues including crisis and emergency appointments, supportgroups to support you in areas of mindfulness and overcominganxiety, wellbeing workshops in self-esteem, enhancing socialskills, relaxation and managing stress, positive mental healthpromotion initiatives and mental health awareness campaigns.www.LIT.ie/Counselling
Careers Service
LIT offers a Careers Service which assists students with allaspects of career planning and the transition from study to theworking world. Workshops and seminars relating to keyemployability skills take place throughout the academic year.These include CV preparation, interview techniques andnetworking. Arrangements are also made for companies to meetwith students in the Institute, including at the annual LIT Careersand Further Options Fair. Learning Support Unit
LIT Learning Support Unit (LSU) is acknowledged nationally as adistinctive and valuable feature of LIT’s Teaching and LearningStrategy. The LSU provides learning support on request from thestudent. Over 1000 LIT students use Learning Support everyyear. Services are based on a supervised self-help model toempower the student and help them to reach their full potential.LSU provides tuition in course subjects, Study Skills, ExamTechniques, Academic Writing, Maths, Computing and English asa Second Language. www.LIT.ie/LearningSupport
Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care
LIT has two Chaplains whose services are available to students ofall religious denominations. The Chaplaincy is available to helpany student of LIT and has four main areas of support: Care,Community, Spirituality and other general duties. Choosing your college accommodation is an important decision;moving away from home is a big step and your accommodationis your home away from home for much of the year, so findingthe right place to live where you will feel safe, and free to study,relax and socialise with friends is essential for a happy collegeexperience.

LIT Life – Sport, Clubs &SocietiesA happy college experience contributes to asuccessful college experience and your collegejourney will be enhanced by the new people you meetand the new friends you make, new experiences youencounter and the fun you have! Alongside a vibrant academic environment, LIT boasts a livelyclubs and societies scene, ensuring that many sporting interestsare catered for and all students are encouraged to get involved inthe numerous extra-curricular activities across the campuses.Our clubs cater for all levels of activity and you can get involvedat your own pace, whether you are an elite athlete, a beginner orjust looking to get fit and have fun. We participate in many inter-varsity competitions allowing students to represent LIT innational competitions. Our sports clubs are mentored andsupported by successful and experienced coaches.
For first year students in particular, joining a club or society is agreat way to make new friends and meet people with similarinterests and helps to make the transition from school to collegeeasier. Involvement in a club or society also helps you to developother valuable skills alongside your academic skills, such asleadership skills through committee involvement, experience inevent management and much more.
Clubs and activities include Hurling, Camogie, Men’s and LadiesGaelic Football, Men’s and Ladies Rugby, Men’s and LadiesSoccer, Golf, Outdoor Club, Boxing, Weightlifting, Judo andBasketball….to name but a few, as well as activities such asAerobics, Boxercise and Yoga. ‘Freshers Week’ takes place at thebeginning of each academic year and is the main recruitment timefor clubs and societies, when you can find out more about theiractivities and sign-up. In addition to sports clubs, there is a diverse range of societiesfor students to join, such as the Movie and PhotographySocieties, International and Computer Societies, Green CampusCommittee and the GIVE initiative. Students also take part inmany events during the year to support local charities.
Sports Facilities
LIT has an impressive range of sports facilities for students,including three full size pitches and an all-weather playing pitch.In Limerick, we have a fitness centre and indoor sports hall. Whiledevelopment of sports facilities is on-going at Thurles andClonmel, students have access to a wide range of sports facilitiesin both towns.
A purpose built, state of the art strength and conditioning building– the ‘LIT SportsLab’ is located at Thurles campus and isdesigned to support students enrolled on our sportsprogrammes, as well as college sports teams. Among thefacilities available in the 2,000 sq. metre facility are a 3D OrganicMotion Capture System for motion analysis; a 45m, six lanesprint track specifically designed to improve speed; a paralympicarea, cable machines; a range of sport technology systems,including micro electro mechanical systems and GPS systems;Olympic lifting platforms; functional screening kits; weights and afull range of exercise machines.
Sports Scholarships
LIT’s Sport Scholarship Scheme allows LIT students who are atthe forefront of their chosen sport to apply for a range ofsupports. In 2017, LIT awarded over 60 bursaries; nine bursarieswere awarded by the Munster GAA Council. The bursaries are notaimed solely at elite players, but are open to all individuals thattake part in coaching and administrative roles in all clubs acrossthe college. Entry RequirementsLeaving CertificateFor students with Leaving Certificate qualifications, the minimumentry requirements for entry to the first year of programmes areas follows, however, applicants should also check for any specificsubject/grade requirements for each programme in the LITProspectus or on our website.
Higher Certificate (Level 6) programmes
You must have 5 O6/H7 grades or higher at Ordinary level in fiveLeaving Certificate subjects. Two of these subjects must include:*Mathematics and a Language (English or Irish).
Bachelor Degree (Level 7) programmes
You must have 5 O6/H7 grades or higher at Ordinary Level in fiveLeaving Certificate subjects. Two of these subjects must include:*Mathematics and a Language (English or Irish).
Honours Bachelor Degree (Level 8) programmes
You must have 2 H5 grades or higher in two Higher Levelsubjects, together with 4 O6/H7 grades or higher in four otherOrdinary Level subjects in Leaving Certificate subjects. Two ofthese subjects must include: *Mathematics and a Language(English or Irish).
Note: in practice, entry levels are significantly above the minimumand points are calculated from the six best subjects from one sitting.
*Foundation Level Mathematics
Foundation Level Mathematics at grade F2 or higher is acceptable asmeeting the Mathematics requirement for certain programmes atLIT. See www.lit.ie/Admissions for details.
Bonus Points for Honours Mathematics
25 bonus points will be awarded to any CAO applicant who hasgained a grade H6 or higher in Leaving Certificate HonoursMathematics.
Foundation Level Irish
Foundation Level Irish at grade F2 will meet the minimumlanguage requirement.
Leaving Certificate Applied Programme (LCA)
LCA subjects do not meet the minimum entry requirements foradmission to academic programmes at LIT and are notconsidered passing subjects. Holders of the LCA qualificationmay wish to undertake a QQI-FET/FETAC Level 5 course in orderto gain eligibility for entry to programmes at LIT.
Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP)
The LCVP module will be considered as a passing moduleprovided the applicant achieves at least a pass grade.
QQI FET/FETAC LIT accepts QQI FET/FETAC awards for entry on all programmesof study. Holders of these qualifications seeking entry to first yearof programmes at LIT should apply through the CAO. For moredetail on QQI FET/FETAC entry to LIT visit: www.lit.ie/Admissions
Mature ApplicantsMature applicants (at least 23 years on 1st January of the year ofentry) should apply to the CAO on or before 1st February, withdocumentary proof of relevant work experience/qualificationsthey wish to be considered.

Admissions and the DARE SchemeLIT is a member of the Disability Access Route to Education(DARE) Scheme. DARE is a third level alternative admissionsscheme which offers reduced points places to school leavers whoas a result of having a disability have experienced additionaleducational challenges in second level education. School-leaverswith a disability applying for full-time, undergraduateprogrammes at LIT should apply via the CAO, indicating on theirapplication that they have a disability or specific learningdifficulty.
