Using StudyMate to create stand-alone interactive flash activities: flashcards, pick a letter, matching, fill in the blank, crosswords, glossary, quizzes, 2 player challenge games. Scores are not saved in BBVista. These are self-tests. Skills covered:
Create and open files
Import formats for no/one/many answer activities Word documents
Create items
Add/remove images
Add/remove audio

.jpg or .gif images are needed for StudyMate activities, BBVista quizzes, Discussion postings, BBVista glossaries, Course Genie webpages and for lots of other online material. Images can be created or modified in Windows Office Picture Manager or with more advanced tools such as IrfanView, Adobe Fireworks or Adobe Photoshop.
Basic skills such as:
Cropping
Rotating
Resizing
Exporting to different file types
Importing other images
Changing resolution
Adding text or shapes
Aadjusting colour/brightness/contrast
Sharpening
Changing canvas size and colour
Layering images
Blending layers

Respondus allows teachers to create a question bank of quiz questions. Question types include Multiple Choice, Multiple Response, True/False, Matching, Short Answer, Fill in the Blank, Jumbled and Calculated. Once created, questions are published to the BBVista question database or to a quiz/survey. Respondus does not create stand-alone quizzes as with StudyMate.

Quiz and survey questions in BBVista are stored in categories in the BBVista Question Database. Before creating quizzes and surveys, this question database needs to be populated with questions. Question types include Multiple Choice, Multiple Response, Combination, True/False, Matching, Short Answer, Fill in the Blank, Jumbled, Paragraph and Calculated.

Wimba Create (formerly called CourseGenie) allows users to convert Word documents to interactive webpages. These webpages can be embedded with a variety of self-test questions, links to glossary words, audio/video files, flash cards, pop-ups to further content. These files can be used as standalone webpages or can be added to a Learning Module in BBVista.

BBVista Discussion Tool allows designers and instructors to set up 3 types of discussion topics which can be grouped by category: threaded discussions, blogs and journals.
Messages and comments can be posted by users. Discussions can be marked by entering a grade or applying a marking rubric. Peer evaluation of postings is also possible.
Messages can be viewed in different ways and compiled to be printed.
How to motivate students by designing appropriate discussion activities will also be discussed.
