THE SYSTEM OF GRADING UNDER 10 POINT SCALE UNDER SEMESTER SYSTEM The Academic Session (July to June) is divided into two Academic Semesters of 20 week each. The curriculum is divided into number of units of instruction called COURSE and course may be cleared by a student at the end of semester in which it is taught/registered/offered. Course: A course is a unit of instruction or a segment of subject matter to be covered in a semester. It has a course number, title and specified number of credits. Credit Hours: Each credit represents; one hour lecture in theory or two hours practical in laboratory/field in a week extended to the period of the semester. Evaluation System Each course will have specified number of periodical examinations consisting of 1st hourly, mid term, practical and end-of-term examination, etc. Evaluation will be done for each of these components of the examination. Marks of these examinations will be added and converted to percentage of marks obtained by the student in the course. Grading System Under 10 Point Scale The percentage of marks obtained in a course is divided by ten and is expressed as grade point in the course. This shall be restricted to one decimal place. The grade in a course multiplied by the credit hours is the credit points of the course. The ;cumulative grade points obtained by a student in all the courses during a semester divided by total credit hours of all these courses is Grade Point Average (GPA) in a semester. It is expressed upto second decimal place. The cumulative credit points obtained in all the courses from the time of admission at the end of second semester and subsequent divided by the cumulative credit hours in these courses studied is Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA). The OGPA is expressed upto second decimal place. Significance of Letter Grades The significance of letter grades under 10 point scale is as under : S-Satisfactory US-Unsatisfactory NC-Non-Credit Course W-Withdrawn I-Incomplete R-Repeat Incomplete Grade (Make-up Examination for End-of-Semester Examination) Incomplete grade is given under the following very exceptional circumstance:
1. Demise of mother or father or spouse; 2. Student’s own hospitalization on account of serious illness; 3. Natural calamity in the home town/village; and 4. Attending interviews conducted by PSC/SSB/ASRB/or other recruiting bodies as approved by the VC.
Repeating of Course An Postgraduate student getting a grade point less than 5.5 in a course shall be declared FAIL in that course. Such a student shall have to repeat that course and the repetition shall be allowed twice only. A student who has passed a course but secured an OGPA less than 6.5 in Postgraduate programme shall be allowed to repeat that course to make up the deficiency with the prior permission of the Dean. Postgraduate Studies. A student who fails to achieve the Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA) specified below at the ;end ;of second, fourth and subsequent registered semesters, as the case may be, he shall stand dropped from the University and such a student shall have no right to petition for re-admission. Undergraduate i) At the end of second registered semester 5.5/10.00 ii) At the end of fourth and subsequent registered semester 6.0/10.00 For conversion of OGPA into percentage of aggregate marks the OGPA will be multiplied by ten.
