P and C Welcome Afternoon Our Lismore South P and C will be holding a welcome afternoon for 2013 this afternoon at the Lismore South
Bowling Club from 5.30pm. New and continuing P and C members are invited to come along and talk about P and C
targets for 2013. I look forward to meeting with many parents and community members this afternoon.
Scripture Classes
Scripture classes will commence at LSPS from tomorrow, Tuesday 19th February and will be held from 1.10 - 1.40pm.
Students have been allocated classes as per their parent requests. We look forward to welcoming our Scripture
teachers for 2013 and know they will enjoy working with our students.
Morning Start Time
Staff are on duty from 8.45am each morning and playground supervision is provided from this time. A number of our
students who catch buses to school arrive before this time and they are expected to wait in the COLA outside the
school hall until the duty teacher commences. For students who walk, ride or get a lift to school it would be greatly
appreciated if parents can keep them at home until a suitable time so they do not arrive well before 8.45am. We
have had some students arriving at school before 8.15am and we cannot provide supervision for them before
8.45am. We thank you for your support in this matter.
Excursions for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6
We are currently thinking about our excursions for this year. We are considering the educational value and how the
visit will relate to class curriculums. We must also take into account the costs to parents, especially those who may
possibly have 2, 3 or 4 children involved in different excursions. We value parent input and would appreciate any
insights you have to offer. Just write a note to your child’s teacher and they will pass it on. We hope to have final
decisions made very soon so that parents can be notified as soon as possible.
Please feel free to come in and have a chat with me at any time or email me. Matt Hobbs [email protected]

Mrs Wright will be starting guitar lessons
this week. Lessons will be every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings starting
at 8:45 am. All instruments, picks, music and folders are
supplied free. Mrs Wright also supplies her tuition for
free. It is expected that students will turn up ON TIME to
EVERY LESSON. Time is also allocated throughout the
day for students to practise in his or her own time for 5 to 10 minutes.
Once a student has demonstrated responsibility by caring
for the instrument, attending lessons on time, practising
and performing a set number of chords correctly they will be given a contract that allows them to take the
instrument home.
Drums will also be starting up soon. Stay tuned for further announcements.
Recorder is also being taught in some classes and there
may be a demand for advanced tuition in this instrument. If so, that may be another program that will be offered in
the near future.

STUDENT WORK SAMPLES from 6B
International Penfriends The students of 6B are participating in a project which is really going to teach them the importance of communicating clearly. No shortcuts or texting language is allowed because the students that we are writing to overseas are learning to speak English. The students also have to be careful what language they use because we do not want our penfriends getting the wrong message. While the students in 6B will gain knowledge about other cultures and lifestyles, they have the knowledge they are helping other students to learn to speak English. The students are very excited and can’t wait to get a response from the students overseas. This is writing for meaning and to see the students motivated is great. While most the letters will be sent electronically, we will have a go at sending some in the snail mail fashion to show the students how long it takes and the speed that communication occurred in the past. The end result will be that the students will make friends which might be life-long, as well as improve their communication skills while helping students across the world to improve their English. Here are some of the letters the children wrote. Mark Boronski
