What is Face to Face Fundraising?• Face to face fundraising (f2f) is a way of soliciting

donations through face-to-face interaction with a potential donor.

• The most common methods are street canvassing, door to door and canvassing in public places (such as malls)

• Not all f2f interaction is done with a goal of monetary donation. Also done to record support for a campaign or cause.

Why It Works?

• Brand Awareness• Can have a direct conversation with donor• Donor can be persuaded• Donor’s can ask questions

But Caution…

• Initial start up fee can be expensive• Negative public attitudes towards your

organization

How to Start an F2F Campaign in Canada?

• There are 3 major agencies that do F2F in Canada:

Option 1: Hire an Agency

How to Start an F2F Campaign in Canada?

• Benefit: Do not have to pay outside agency• Con: Expensive to start up

Option 2: In house

Success Stories• Canadian Red Cross

• Estimate they raised $9 million in gross revenue from f2f• Recruited ¾ of their 60,000 monthly donors

• Médecins sans Frontières (Doctors without Boarders)• Half of their 45,000 current monthly donors started giving “because

of a conversation they had with someone on the street or at their door.”

• Amnesty International• Since starting their f2f campaign in 2002 they have recruited more

than 10,000 monthly donors • Raised approximately $2 million a year. • Average monthly gift is $17.00

People Give to People!

• Last week (October 7- 13) was “Feed Tomorrow Week”• Campaign included students in TTC stations collecting

money, and informing the public about the organization’s nutrition programs.

• In 2012 the TTC campaign raised $8000 in one day• Goal was to raise awareness through the students own

experiences.

• 2. What do you see as the benefits and limitations of using face-to-face fundraising?

• 3. What are some ways you could adapt the popular techniques of face-to-face fundraising (on streets, malls and door to door) to make it successful for a specific organization?
