LEVELS OF ENGAGEMENT

To develop a project definition report for the Lions Gate WWTP by implementing an integrative process that guides and inspires higher performance and continually improves engagement around issues of sustainability in the community and nearby watersheds,

In a way that engages project participants to experience our role in the water cycle and deepen our understanding of how the business of wastewater management can positively affect it,

So that the project manifests the practicable application of Metro Vancouver’s Vision for a Sustainable Region and sets a new standard for Wastewater Treatment Plants as a community asset.

LGWWTP - Project Charter

Think Big: think beyond traditional boundaries . . . in order to:• integrate technical and living systems• understand effects beyond site boundaries• develop longer term sustainable solutions• serve larger ecosystems

Embrace Waste: use waste as a valuable resource . . . in order to:• displace fossil fuels and reduce GHG• generate local renewable energy• offset potable use• recover nutrients• rehabilitate degraded ecosystems

Optimize Interrelationships: seek creative solutions that transcend constraints . . . in order to:• reconcile cost, value, and performance• maximize exchanges

Enrich the Community: increase quality of life  & economic development . . . in order to:• transform the health of the place• become a catalyst for regional change• be an affordable asset for current and future generations

Inspire Stewardship: foster responsibility, transparency, awareness, & education . . . in order to:• expand active engagement in the health of the community and ecosystem• understand behavioral impacts

Concept 1:

INTERTIDAL WETLANDA Constant Exchange of Nutrients

This concept is focused on NATURE

Like an intertidal wetland, this concept will celebrate and extend the complex overlaps between the wastewater treatment process, tidal phases, downstream impacts, hydrological cycles, and nutrient exchange opportunities in a way that develops a resilient, durable integrated system, expands the life giving force of water, and maximizes the human perception of water in all its forms, so that…

Concept 5:

FLEA MARKETA Constant Exchange of Knowledge

This concept is focused on COMMUNITY

Like a flea market, this concept is focused on the exchange of knowledge and improving social health; it’s primary purpose is to create value in a manner that derives maximum social, economic and technical benefit by leveraging on the unbridled potential of human ingenuity, so that...

Concept 9:

DRAGON’S DENLong-Term Net Revenue Generation

This concept is focused on MONEY

Like the popular television show The Dragon's Den, this concept is characterized entirely by maximizing net revenue from the plant in a manner that is highly effective, economically intensive and unsentimental, so that...
