Next, we create a strap that stretches across below the lion’s head and attaches to the other
side. The strap will be attached to the other side by a button (see B on next page).
1) ch 15
2) sc 1 starting in the third loop from hook
3) ch 2 and skip two stitches (this creates the hole for the button)
4) continue sc starting after the two stitches just skipped until you reach the mane
again
5) Fasten off and weave in ends
6) Sew on a button inside the mane at the appropriate location
Next, create the wavy mane beginning behind the ears. Locate the first row of stitches
directly behind the ears, there are 42 stitches across.
sc 1, * slst, hdc, tc three times in same stitch, hdc, slst * - repeat 8 times, sc 1
Locate the next row of stitches behind the mane just created, there are 42 stitches across.
sc 1, * slst, hdc, tc three times in same stitch, hdc, slst * - repeat 8 times, sc 1

A) Going through the back loops in every round creates this spiral effect.
B) Attach the button to the inside of the mane.

♥ Lion Tail (single crocheted strip plus a pom pom!) 1) Wrap mane colored yarn around a piece of sturdy paper or cardboard that is 2” wide
approximately 20 times
2) Remove the wrapped yarn and tie another piece of yarn around it
3) Pull tight and tie a few knots
4) Using lion colored yarn, ch 15. At the final loop, tie to the pom pom
5) Turn and sc 14 starting the second loop from hook. Cut through pom pom loops
6) Trim the pom pom until it is nice and round then sew the tail to the lion’s bum!

♥ Suggested Lion Assembly Order 1) Attach the safety eyes through the head (between R13 and R14)
2) Use a black piece of embroidery floss to create the lion’s mouth on the snout
3) Attach the safety nose through the snout and head, sew around the snout so that it
rests flat against the head
4) Stuff the head and the body
5) Sew the body to the head
6) Sew the ears onto the head. Make sure the ears are far enough apart so that the
mane will fit
7) Sew the arms onto the body
8) Sew the legs onto the body
9) Sew the tail onto the lion’s bum and put on his removable mane!
