FAKAA LOFA LAHI ATU! 12 March 2020 Dear Parents, Caregivers and Friends Kia Ora, Talofa, Malo lelei, Namaste, Kia Orana and Greetings Principal This week it is hard to believe that Sunday will be one year since we spent 5 hours in lockdown due to the behaviour of one person towards our Muslim community. I would like to think one year on, I have a much better understanding of our Muslim brothers and sisters and we as a community continue to not tolerate racism of any kind. These actions are not reflective of our community and I encourage you to spare a thought for those who lost their lives on the anniversary this Sunday. New Build The new build is well and truly on its way with the roof going on next week. This is really exciting for our school and I look forward to being able to open the new building in months to come. As a school there are a few more projects happening, including a new garage to house our reading resources, an extension of our staff carpark and new senior playground. Staff Leaving Leanne Morgan (Room 5) has tendered her resignation and will leave at the end of the term. Leanne has only worked at Linwood Avenue School for a short time and we have appreciated her contribution to the school. I wish her all the best in her teaching career. Retirement It is with a heavy heart that I announce the retirement of Jill Morris. Jill started teaching at Linwood Avenue School in 1985 and has taught a huge number of children over the years. It is amazing to think she has taught multiple generations of some families. Jill is hugely respected by her colleagues and our school community and will be missed by many as a familiar face within the school. We will be having a special assembly for Jill on Thursday 9 th April at 2pm. All are invited, however we ask you to RSVP to the office. Blair Dravitski Principal

Remembrance Tree

On Sunday it will be the anniversary of the Christchurch Terror Attacks. Our local Linwood Mosque was directly affected in the Christchurch Terror Attack. To acknowledge the victims, and their families LAS would like to plant a tree each year in remembrance. LAS will not forget those affected and send much Aroha to our families and local/wider community during this time.

Grandparent Award

Congratulations to Alexa Marshall from Room 5a. Alexa’s entry won the Duffy Books in Homes ‘Caught being a good Grandparent Award’.

‘My Nanni and Pops live on an acre and half of land. They have lots for me to play with like a tramp, bike, skateboard, pool, pole tennis and hula hoops. My Pops builds things for me that I can play with like my tree swing and sandpit. Pops always reads me stories when I stay there and even lets me go on holiday with them in their campervan. Pops always plays with me when I ask. They don’t have internet so I play outside a lot! Pops tells Nanni that I can have McD’s sometimes too.

My Pops is awesome.’
