How to practise?

Consider to begin practise with Red Hat Clone Linux for example Oracle Linux 6.

With Oracle Linux you have less worry with Software Packages of Linux because YUM (public YUM) is easily enabled. It is just one step. Using YUM you install Software Packages

Tip : Read about YUM and Linux Derivatives

With Fedora, Ubuntu etc. you can configure YUM but there is an extra steps and configuration. It is in fact good and need to practise with these (apt-get etc commands) but after some practise with Red Hat Clone Linux

Setup Virtual Box Network and then DNSMASQ for a DNS Server up and running. Using this you can set up many hosts on one Server

Tip : Read about FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) and Hosts, if you are total beginner

https://oracle-base.com/articles/linux/oracle-linux-frequently-asked-questions

Step 1 Practise

The Step 1 practise is just installing on one Linux Server (Virtual Server)

The Mantra I follow : Install, Take Snapshot, Test and Play and Revert Back to the Snapshot

Step 2 Practise

In Step 2 practise install 2 or 3 Linux Servers, that gives you more flexibility to practise with RHCSA and RHCE topics. Here you can practise Networking etc. too

For that you begin by configuring SSH (see "Manual User Equivalence") first. It is all about, in simple words, making your Linux Servers know each other

(Linux Installations) Click on " Operating System Installations" -> Oracle Linux 6

Enabling public YUM (The public YUM Repository is already there, you just need to enable it by going in the directory and opening the file "/etc/yum.repos.d")

After some practise read and practise :

Set up Virtual Box Network Below is the set up of Adapters /Network Cards of Virtual Box

After you start the Server and log in, right click on Network Icon (on top right you find it) and

set the adjustments. If you are total beginner, you should know Adapter 1 is eth0 and so on.

This Adapter is also called Network Card

Install DNSMASQ . Go to the section DNSMASQ in this article

The Network Cards / Adapters :

eth0 is only for connecting Internet

eth1 is a Static IP comes from Virtual Box

eth2 is for setting up your DNS Server and playing with it

Page 4: Linux Server Practise - 1
Page 5: Linux Server Practise - 1

One way you can make yourself familiar with Networking is playing with it. In the above

screen you can see I mentioned two DNS Servers for "eth2"with a comma

The Network Manager over writes the Name Server file that means the "192...0.4"will not be

present once you do "service network restart" or reboot your server

Test this for yourself what happens if you do not mention that and check the file below. Use

the Service Restart Network or Reboot

Test1 and Test2 are the Host IPs I used to check the DNS Server working

Page 6: Linux Server Practise - 1

Install DNSMASQ first

After installing that verify whether the DNS Service recognizes them using the below tests

The shutting down and start up of eth0. That is used only for connecting to the Internet

The Networking Scripts are placed in this directory

DHCP Installation

Note :

This DHCP installation is just to get to know it. It is not that required. So, install it if you want to practise. It is important to take snapshot and revert back to Server installation snapshot

For this practise use only two Adapters. Adapter 1 for connecting to the Internet and second one set up with Internal Network (see the section "Setup Virtual Box Network")

DNSMASQ This is the simplest way to set up DNS Server for practise and small Network

FTP FTP Server and Clients Installation

FTP Server

FTP Clients There are various FTP Clients. Below we cover "GFTP, FTP and LFTP"

Page 14: Linux Server Practise - 1

FTP Server Configuration Files

Opened the file using "vi" and set the line numbers

Open the Port and if you want to disable the Firewall just run the next command and click on

disable

Page 15: Linux Server Practise - 1

Created a file and just typed the user name "oracle" and saved it

Proxy Server Installation

Note : This installation is just to get to know it. It is not that required. So, install it if you want to practise. It is important to take snapshot and revert back to Server installation snapshot
