Summary:
Organiser : IEEE UNMC Student Branch
Name of Event : Embedded System with Linux Workshop
Date of Event / Location of the event : 4th April
The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus
Objective of the Event : - Exposed to programming in Linux platform with
embedded system.
-Prepare the participant equipe with the skillset that meet
the industrial requirement.
Number of Participants : 30 - 40
Details of the event:
Basic of setup and installation of the VMware ,Linux & Libusb will be conducted during the event.
Eclipse IDE setup , basic hello world programming, debugging skill ,extract information from the
data sheet ,basic usage of oscilloscope and programming into the Sub20 will be included in the
activity. More practical activity like data collection from the Sub 20 , analyse the data,
interpretation of the data using theory ,figure out how to characterise the data and manipulate
the code to finish the task is planned to carry out during the event .This will expose the participant
on how the data is generated in the embedded system and how to code in order to manipulate
the sensor. This event will train the participant on the ability to understand the whole process of
the embedded system from taking up input until it produces output.

Introduction Embedded system has a significant impact in todays electronic world. The purpose of this
workshop is to give students a kick-start into using embedded platform. This workshop aims
to cover the basic usage of Linux operating system in embedded system as mentioned at the
workshop description.
Benefits 1. Help students to understand the engineering design flow.
2. Cultivate students interest in embedded system by practical experience.
3. Let students to have more exposure to the industrial application using Linux platform .
4. Help students to equipe with industrial tools which will boot their career in the industrial field .
5. Help student narrow the skill gap between the university practical experience and the industrial requirement.
6. Help student learn how to analysis the data extracted from the Sub 20.
Expected Outcome 1.0 Learn Embedded System Programming with Linux
1.1 Able to read Embedded Boards datasheet quickly.
1.2 Able to recognise the signal extract from the embedded system
1.3 Able to understand the data sheet
