PBIS Incentive
This quarter we will have an additional optional incentive to encourage students to earn Starbucks for demonstrating our Shining Star Behaviors. Students are invited to turn in 50
Starbucks by Wednesday, Nov. 27th in order to participate in our 20 minute Turkey Trot. Grade levels will have assigned times during the day for this fun course that celebrates the hard work and important qualities we teach our students. Please continue to encourage your students to
demonstrate safety, taking responsibility, active learning, and respect so they can earn their Starbucks over the next 7 weeks. We hope to see all our students there!

Announcements & Gentle Reminders
Congratulations Linton Springs Elementary on earning Gold status in the
“Project ACES” Physical Activity Challenge. We had 95.78% of our
students meet the 60 minutes per day challenge. Many students increased
their activity level and are now more aware of healthy eating habits as well
as physical fitness habits. As a result of meeting this status, our school will
have access to $200 to be used within our Physical Education/Health
programs. In addition, Linton Springs placed 4th overall in your division and
earned another $100.
Help spread awareness and wear blue on November 14th to support World Diabetes Day. Diabetes is a chronic disease where the pancreas does not produce enough insulin if any at all and can affect any age. It can also lead to serious health conditions but the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes can be significantly reduced by an adoption of a healthy diet and increased physical activity. 1 in 2 people who have diabetes do not know they have it. Take the time this month to learn more about the warning signs.
American Education Week is Nov. 18-22. Visitors are welcome to observe during school hours but we ask that you please follow visitor procedures by checking into the office upon arrival and have your ID available. We look forward to you observing the amazing instruction that occurs, so please be a silent supporter of the learning. If you would like a conference please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or sign up for conferences on Nov. 26th.
Shannon Spencer, our permanent substitute, will be providing instruction in fifth grade STEM until we are able to interview and hire a teacher. Ms. Spencer is a certified teacher. She knows our students, schedule, routines and philosophies. Ms. Heser, Mr. Lenz, and Ms. Myers have all lent a hand to make this transition as smooth as possible for everyone.
Family Night December 12th o Scholastic's Arctic Adventure Book Fair: Snow Much to Read! Family
Night will be held on Thursday, December 12th from 4 - 7:30 PM. It's the coolest reading expedition ever. Come out to see the books your student wrote down on their wish list and purchase some gifts for the holidays. Consider adding some books to your child's teacher's classroom library. The new Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Dog Man books will be available as well as many other popular titles. Check out our website at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/lintonspringselem. Hope to see you there!
o During Family Night on Dec.12th, the annual LSE Spelling Bee will occur as well. Students in grades 2-5 are eligible to compete and should look for information regarding the written spelling test in the near future. The top ten high scorers in each grade will then take to the stage to compete in the oral spelling bees, one per grade. First place winners receive a $20 gift certificate to the Book Fair, second place winners receive a $15 gift certificate, and third place winners receive a $10 gift certificate. Good luck to all who participate!
o LifeTouch will also be here during Family Night! On a first come basis, families can sit for one pose and purchase the printed photos on site. Please see the flier for more information. Bring your best smiles!

CCPS does not discriminate on the basis of age, color, genetic information, marital status, mental or physical disability, ancestry or national origin, race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation. CCPS provides
nondiscriminatory access to school facilities in accordance with its policies and regulations regarding the community use of schools (including, but not limited to, the Boy Scouts).
CCPS maintains all of its policies and practices in strict compliance with all applicable Federal and State civil rights laws, including Titles VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Titles I and II of the Americans
with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and Title 20 of the State Government
Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland.
No person will be denied admission to any school or to any program or course of study in CCPS on a basis that is contrary to any of the above stated laws.
TITLES VI AND VII OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT OF 1964
Titles VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibit discrimination in the provision of programs and services (Title VI) and in employment practices (Title VII). All students and employees in the CCPS are
covered by these laws. They require that the system must provide equal opportunity in admissions, athletics, counseling, access to courses, and employment policies regarding race, color, or national
origin.
For questions or concerns regarding Titles VI and VII, please contact one of the following: Dana Falls, Director of Student Services, 125 North Court Street, Westminster, Maryland 21157, (410) 751-3123, or

Title IX is that portion of the Educational Amendments of 1972 which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in educational programs or activities receiving federal funds. All students and employees in Carroll County Public Schools are covered by this law. It requires that the system must provide equal opportunity
in admissions, athletics, counseling, access to courses, employment policies regarding marital or parental status of students, and treatment of students.

Maryland 21157, (410) 751-3059.
NON-DISCRIMINATION GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE
The CCPS has adopted an internal grievance procedure providing for prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging any discriminatory action prohibited by applicable laws. Any person who believes she
or he has been subjected to discrimination on the basis of disability may file a grievance under this procedure. It is against the law for the CCPS or any of its employees to retaliate against anyone who files
a grievance or cooperates in the investigation of a grievance.
Grievances or complaints related to allegations of discrimination should be addressed to the Director of Human Resources, Chantress Baptist, 125 North Court Street, Westminster, Maryland 21157, (410) 751-
3070.
Procedure:
Grievances must be submitted to the Director of Human Resources within 20 calendar days of the date the person filing the grievance becomes aware of the alleged discriminatory action.
A complaint must be in writing, containing the name and address of the person filing it. The complaint must state the problem or action alleged to be discriminatory and the remedy or relief
sought.
The Director of Human Resources (or her/his designee) shall conduct an investigation of the complaint. This investigation may be informal, but it must be thorough, affording all interested persons an opportunity to submit evidence related to the complaint. The Director of Human
Resources will maintain the files and records for the CCPS relating to such grievances.
The Director of Human Resources (or her/his designee) will issue a written decision on the grievance no later than 30 days after its filing.
The person filing the grievance may appeal the decision of the written decision from the Director of Human Resources (or her/his designee) by writing to the Superintendent of Schools within 15 days of receiving the Director of Human Resources (or her/his designee). The Superintendent of
Schools shall issue a written decision in response to the appeal no later than 30 days after its filing.
The availability and use of this grievance procedure does not prevent a person from filing a complaint of discrimination with the U. S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights, the Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission, or the Maryland Commission on Human Relations. In addition, employees may submit a grievance in accordance with the terms of their negotiated collective bargaining agreements.
The CCPS will make appropriate arrangements to ensure that persons with disabilities are provided other accommodations, if needed, to participate in this grievance process. Such arrangements may include,
but are not limited to, providing interpreters for the deaf, providing recordings of material for the blind, or assuring a barrier-free location for the proceedings. The Director of Human Resources will be
responsible for such arrangements.
