Beautiful Concert - Beautiful Worldby Ian Gibb, customer

In September 2012 customers from our Haverstock Hill service went to a classical music concert atthe University of London. The concert was held to celebrate international music culture and theLondon 2012 Paralympic Games. The event was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade ofKorea and the Korean Foundation, Beautiful Mind.

Customers from Haverstock Hill thoroughly enjoyed the rendition of theclassical music by talented musicians who had various disabilities. Below isan account of the day by Ian Gibb (pictured);

“There was a piano quartet in the first segment, they played a piece writtenby Brahms. There were guest performers of a soprano, Denise Leigh, andaccordionist, Stefan Andresyschyn, who performed three opera classicswho are both visually impaired.

The second segment began with a piano solo by Kim Kyeong-min. He has cerebral palsy yet he wasable to faultlessly perform Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata and a piece he wrote himself calledReminiscences.

The final part of the first segment was performed by a young people choir who came from anorganization that assists deaf and hard of hearing children. The choir also performed at the openingceremony of the Paralympics.

The courage and quality of the performers was very inspiring. The evening saw traditional Korean instruments mixed well with classicalinstruments in a perfect marriage of music. The audience were lifted by singers and musicians alike and were clearly gratified when it cametime for them to deliver a rapturous applause”.
