ON-PREMISE Laundry Facility:

A BARRIER LAUNDRY SYSTEM

• From hospitals and clinics to homes for the elderly—healthcare facilities around the world are facing a growing problem.

• You can’t see it, but it’s there: BACTERIA…. that can cause infection, illness or even death.

• Although you can’t see bacteria with the naked eye, it is typically present all around us.

• The goal is to eliminate the risk of microbiological contamination by reducing the levels of bacteria present in Healthcare…..particularly HOSPITAL LINEN.

• acquired by patients while in health care facilities such as hospitals and clinics.

• a growing problem that cannot be ignored.

• All processes at a health care facility are interrelated.

• To minimize contamination risks, a successful hygiene strategy must consider every activity on the premises.

• Nosocomial infections can be prevented.

• There are many sources of microbiological contamination—and the laundry process is an important one.

• This is why laundry flows must be included in any comprehensive strategy for better hygiene routines.

• With a barrier laundry, a WALL separates dirty linen from clean linen;

• Cross contamination is avoided.

A Barrier washer extractor has two doors located on opposite sides of the

machine.

This allows the machine to be installed in a wall that divides two separate

laundry rooms.

Dirty linen is loaded into the machine in one room

(the dirty side) and the clean linen is then

unloaded into the other room (the clean side).

UNLOAD

A hygienic barrier washer extractor is a special type of side loaded drum machine

LOAD

The laundry is fed into the drum through a large door opening on one side of the machine, the soiled side.

When the laundry has been washed, the clean linen is removed from the washer extractor in another room, the clean side of the laundry area. In this way, the bacteria, dust or other dirt particles are given no chance of

coming into contact with the clean linen.

Both doors can never be opened at the same time and staff moving from

the dirty side to the clean side must

pass through a tiny room where

contaminated gloves and gowns are removed and

hands are thoroughly washed.

On a regular basis and at several stages

of the laundering process, laundry staff

Electro-Mechanical engineers may have to be brought in to help with the layout of the new Barrier Laundry Facility

Careful planning is required on the lay-out of a Hygienic Barrier Laundry System in consideration of the WALL that will divide

the SOILED /WET area from the CLEAN/DRY area

The use of BOILER to create STEAM (at 100 degrees

centigrade and above) as the main heating element for

Washers, Dryers, and Flatwork ironers ensures the

hygienic processing of Hospital Linen.

Automatic Chemical Dispensers ensure exact dosing, no spillage, no wastage in the application of Chemicals for washing & disinfection

• Laundry processing discards huge volumes of waste water. Therefore , considering a WATER RECYCLING SYSTEM is one option to operate the Laundry Plant economically and efficiently, while fulfilling your Corporate Social Responsibility to the ENVIRONMENT.

• Adding “Cold Wash” programmes to front load washers would mean the laundry could process delicate items of clothing and Hotel beddings/Catering linen that you normally send out for dry cleaning.

• These delicate linen will be processed separately from PRECAUTIONARY linen (potentially contaminated Hospital linen)
