Multidiscipl inary artist, from 2005 she mainly works in video art and scene photograph as a way of expression.

She very often uses herself as a vehicle to treat various nowadays themes, such as woman role and artist role

among others. In her strategies points the introduccion of other characters, so in her serie Super M her

daughter Myna appears as another main character. We can also find spectators, for instance in the serie

Dressing Up Art. Some other times she creates a fiction character to develop her plots, such as Skull in the

relational project The Duel, shared with the artist Beatriz Sánchez, where both challenge through video

actions in an endless fight judged by social networks.

In May 201 3 she was one of the first selected by Linea de Costa A. I .R. Program. The artist decides to develop

her new part of her project, cal led The Family, during her period in Cádiz.

The two starting parts of this project which began in 2011 , being pregnant at the time, are forms by a serie of

video and photographs in which we find the artist assuming this new roll that transforms her l ife forever

making her a kind of heroine, Super M, a super woman and at the same time a super tired.

She doesn't play here, as it usually happens which artists such Cindy Sherman or Yasumasa Morimura, or her

own serie Dressing Up Art, with appropiation concept, but the character is herself. Super M is Verónica Ruth

Frías and Verónica Ruth Frías is Super M.

In contrast with her previous work in the serie Super M, in The Family, the artist meets her artistic origins

facing this production through a extraordinary plastic language, drawings and scuptures made with ceramic

where she reflect about the concept family and her wish about the education she wants to transmit to her

daughter Myna: “ I want her to learn to read, to write, to fly and to be happy”.

In agreement with Linea de Costa aims, which manages the residency program, of approaching contemporary

art to new public and energizing the city cultural environment, Verónica Ruth Frías besides her production

during her residency, in this new phase of her project offered a lecture-meeting revealing the clues of her

career. She also rules a workshop for children where she used concepts developed in her previous work: the

family. The documentation and subsequent edition for a video creation piece with the same title, wich closes

her period as artist in residence in Linea de Costa.

Artista multidiscipl inar, a partir del 2005 se decanta principalmente por el video-arte y la fotografía

escenificada como medios de expresión. En numerosas ocasiones se usa a sí misma como un vehículo para

tratar una variedad de temas de actual idad, como son el rol de la mujer y el rol del artista, entre otros. Entre

sus estrategias destacan la introducción de otros personajes: así en su serie Super M aparece su hija Myna

como co-protagonista. En otras ocasiones lo hacen espectadores de sus performances documentadas, como

podemos encontrar en la serie Disfrazando el arte. En otros casos, crea un personaje ficticio para desarrol lar

sus argumentos, como Calavera en el proyecto relacional El Duelo junto a la artista Beatriz Sánchez, donde

ambas se retan a través de video-acciones en un combate sin fin juzgado a través de las redes sociales.

En mayo de 201 3 se convierte en una de las primeras seleccionadas del Programa Internacional de Artistas

en residencia Linea de Costa A. I .R. La artista decide desarrol lar durante su período en la ciudad de Cádiz la

nueva parte de su proyecto Super M, denominada La Famil ia.

Las dos primeras partes del citado proyecto, iniciado en el 2011 al quedarse embarazada, están integradas

por una serie de vídeos y fotografías en las que encontramos a la artista asumiendo este nuevo rol que

trastoca su vida para siempre, transformada en una especie de heroína, Super M, una Super Mujer que

debe ser una Super Madre pero que además está Super Cansada. No juega aquí, como sucede

habitualmente en las producciones de artistas como Cindy Sherman o Yasumasa Morimura, y en su citada

serie Disfrazando el Arte, con el apropiacionismo, sino que el personaje es ella misma: Super M es Verónica

Ruth Frías, y Verónica Ruth Frías es Super M.

En contraposición con el trabajo anterior de la serie Super M, en La Famil ia la artista se reencuentra con sus

orígenes artísticos, afrontando esta producción a través de un lenguaje eminentemente plástico: dibujos y

esculturas realizadas en cerámica, donde reflexiona sobre el concepto famil ia y su preocupación por la

educación que desea transmitir a su hija Myna: “quiero que aprenda a leer, a escribir y a volar, quiero que

aprenda a ser fel iz”.

En consonancia con los objetivos de la Asociación Cultural Linea de Costa que gestiona el programa de

residencias - acercar el arte contemporáneo a nuevos públicos y dinamización del entorno cultural de la

ciudad - durante su residencia, además de la producción de las obras de esta nueva fase del proyecto Super

M, Verónica Ruth Frías ofreció una charla-encuentro en la que de forma bri l lante y distendida desveló las

claves que fundamentan su trayectoria, y desarrol ló un tal ler para niños donde abordó los conceptos

planteados en su más reciente trabajo: La Famil ia. La documentación del tal ler y su posterior edición

conformó una pieza de vídeo-creación bajo el mismo título, que cierra la producción de su período como

artista residente en Linea de Costa A. I .R
