SchoolHaverford College is a private co-educational liberal arts college located in Haverford,Pennsylvania, USA, a suburb of Philadelphia. The College was founded in 1833.

Please refer to appendices for the LINES Haverford Timetables for 2013, due to the nature of change some aspects such as evening activities

may alter but will only do so for something either more creative or fun. The timetables are given for weeks 1-4 and are further divided into

Junior and Senior Timetable; the timetables are ultimately the same but vary in some evening activities.

Division of Ages

In accordance with our American partners the following age groups will apply to those students undertaking a course at LINES Haverford, USA

10-13 will be deemed as juniors

14-18+ will be deemed as seniors

This will allow for appropriate integration of students according to their age


LINES Haverford 2013 Information

Student Integration

2013 will provide LINES students with an additional opportunity to practice English as it is planned for LINES students to be integrated with

American students for some off campus evening and weekend activities. There will be no integration during lesson time or Pro Sport/Arts.

Integration will occur as follows

Juniors: Wednesday on an off campus trip to Cinema, Sunday on an excursion into Philadelphia

Seniors: integration is more limited for the older age group due to logistics and space but integration will occur as follows Tuesday on an

off campus trip to Cinema and Sunday on an excursion into Philadelphia.

Students will also integrate with American students during meal times as they will share the same facility. This allows the students to have time

practicing their English, socialising with American students and engaging in American culture.

Pro Sport/Pro Art

The following are the categories of Sport and Art that students can avail of during their stay at Haverford

Sport: Tennis, Basketball, Fitness and Golf

Art: Dance, Digital Photography, Art and Fashion

Students have the capacity to choose more than 1 Pro Sport/Art category, for example, if a student is staying for 2 weeks then he/she make pick

Golf Week 1 and Fashion Week 2, so a student can vary their Pro Sport/Art programme, the only condition is that students will not be allowed to

change mid-week to another option, they must stay with their choice for that week, the student may also choose to do the 1 Pro Sport/Art option

for the duration of their stay.

Academic Excursion/Theme of the Week

Each week there will be an associated theme, this theme will be the primary focus for the academic programme of that week. There will be an

academic excursion during the week which will be relevant to the theme. Please see below the Theme of the Week and the location of the

Academic Excursion.

Appendix 9

Student Activities Haverford 2013

Championship Cup & Regatta: This is an annual tradition at our programme that is basically a week long “Colour Wars” game. The first night is an

“intellectual night” where students compete in game show style trivia competitions; solve logic puzzles of mental obstacle courses, etc. The 2nd night is the

sports & games night where students compete for points in traditional and non-traditional sports like soccer, crab-soccer, basketball, dodge ball, volleyball,

etc. The 3rd night is the teamwork portion where students compete in events that require total team participation (relay races, team obstacle courses, etc.). The

final night is an awards ceremony followed by an outdoor party/dance.

Watermelon Carving/Tossing Competition: Students carve watermelons and use the tools with which we provide them to launch their watermelons as far

as possible.

Zombie Casino Night: Casino night with a Halloween theme. Students and Counsellors dress up in their most ghoulish costumes and go to our on campus

casino to compete for the most points in a variety of different table games. (Please note we do not use real money)

Disgusting Olympics: This evening carries on our Halloween theme and is a series of team events wherein students compete in gross events like Spaghetti

Oh Scrabble (a game where students use spaghetti OH’s to spell words for points).

Murder Mystery Night: This is a life-size game of “Clue”. All of the counsellors and directors dress up as suspects and, over the period of the evening the

students are given clues that will help them successfully identify the murderer, motive, weapon of choice and modus operandi.

Hawaiian Luau Party: We create a tropical theme and have an outdoor dance amidst Tiki Torches, Ukuleles, and Leis.

Team Night Challenge: As the name suggests, this is a night that encourages social bonding through games. Students will have to do things like participate

in a mattress obstacle course wherein they take turns carrying each other through a maze on a mattress and take part in a “Minute to Win It” style group game.

Kidnap the Counsellor: This game takes “Capture” to a whole new level. In this event students must transport a counsellor to a secret location and hide

him/her from the other team. The first team to find the opposing counsellor wins the round and gets one point. The first team to 5 points wins. Here’s the

catch, the counsellor cannot walk. Students need to carry him/her through teamwork to the secret location.

Pyjama Party: This is a night wherein students wear their comfiest Pj’s and participate in sleepover style activities: spa night options, Wii/PS3/Xbox

tournaments, movies, etc. There is also a resident DJ so students can turn the event into a Pyjama dance party.

Casino Dance Night: This is much like our zombie casino night. Students and staff are encouraged to wear their finest clothes. The games will be the same

but the atmosphere will feel more Monte Carlo than mad scientist.

Boy/Girl Night: This night is a relaxing evening wherein girls can choose from a variety of Spa like activities (manicure, pedicure, facial, etc.) and the boys

can choose from a variety of sporting activities (basketball, soccer, dodge ball, etc.). After these events both sexes come together to watch a movie.

Floor Wars & Movie: Students compete as “floors” in nearly a dozen games and the event is followed by (weather permitting) an outdoor movie.

Game Show Night: Students participate in a variety of game shows that range from “double dare” to “jeopardy” to “family feud”. The games will always

bridge the gap between mental and physical.
