INTRODUCTION

About Linda:I grew up in a small town until the age of five.Living in the countryside was really exciting.I could walk a lot in the nature, have a lot ofanimals and be creative.

I remember my grandmother and my great-grandmother knitting nice hats, sweaters, and vests for me. All their friends were alsoalways busy creating lovely handcraftprojects. When I was four, I forced mygrandma to show me how to knit andcrochet. Here started my creative life.

I kept up my interest insewing continously. Around my earlytwenties, I liked to make skirts. From my latetwenties, I prefer to create dresses. Thesefive dresses are from the last summer.

About the event:

3. Study Table

Art and Art History was always important forme. I was a member of the drawing and artgroup in primary school. In 2004, when I hadmy high school or gymnasium final exam, one of the main subjects was Drawing andArt History.

It is very important to learn the history of thetechnique before we start to create anyprojects. This step helps the participant torespect the effort needed to master atechnique.

INTRODUCTION

About the event:

4. Crochet Posters

I like to recreate historical crochet patternsand combine them with different arttechniques, like calligraphy and art nouveaumotifs.

I brought 12 Crochet Posters to the eventwith different words. Six of them werecreated after, in January 2017, I coachedinternational academics about LinkedIn. Iasked them to pick one word that symbolizessuccess for them. Just like a Maori tattooartist, I tried to capture the essence of theirword.

About crochet in English

According to American crochet expert and world traveler Annie Potter, "The modemart of true crochet as we know it today was developed during the 16th century. Itbecame known as 'crochet lace' in France and 'chain lace' in England." And, she tellsus, in 1916 Walter Edmund Roth visited descendants of the Guiana Indians and foundexamples of true crochet.

Another writer/researcher, Lis Paludan of Denmark, who limited her search for theorigins of crochet to Europe, puts forth three interesting theories. One: Crochetoriginated in Arabia, spread eastward to Tibet and westward to Spain, from where itfollowed the Arab trade routes to other Mediterranean countries. Two: Earliestevidence of crochet came from South America, where a primitive tribe was said tohave used crochet adornments in rites of puberty. Three: In China, early exampleswere known of threedimensional dolls worked in crochet.
