This webinar will familiarize custodians of digitized collections with

Need boxes on a budget? Save your collection and your cash by making

your own custom, acid-free boxes. Sending items out for custom boxes is

very expensive. Learn to make four fold phase boxes in this hands -on

workshop. Commercial alternatives and vendor services will also be

discussed. Materials will be provided. Space limited to 25 attendees.

Lunch will not be provided. Attending Archives on a Shoestring I & II is

not required to participate.

Who should attend: those preserving archives materials or library

special collections

Forums strive to provide a place for those working in the Technical Services

Merrick Public Library, and LILRC in this hands-on workshop. You will

learn what Raspberry Pi is, what it is used for, and even how to program

one yourself! If all goes according to plan, you will walk out of the

program with an operational Raspberry Pi to show off to your colleagues

and supervisor! No need to worry about bringing anything with you,

everything you need to get started will be provided by LILRC. Although

this program is designed for beginners, all are welcome. LILRC coupons

Sound Advice: Affordable, Responsible Practices for

Producing and Managing Audio

This workshop will cover the ways in which oral historians, podcasters,

and recorders of public presentations can best prepare their materials for

archival ingest. Brett Dion, our workshop instructor, will recommend best

practices for applying budget-minded audio technology during recording,

post-production, and storage. He will discuss interview environments,

microphone placement, audio basics and troubleshooting, file formats,

recording gear, metadata, alternatives to outsourcing transcription,

working with the Oral History Metadata Synchronizer, and editing with

software like Audacity. Please bring laptops if available.

Creating Finding Aids for Archival Collections

Finding aids are the key to locating archival and other primary source

materials within a collection. Finding aids include a detailed description

of a collection, explains how it is organized, and outlines its contents,

pointing to locations where relevant materials may be found. Some

finding aids contain links to digitized versions of documents or images.

This workshop requires some knowledge of arranging and describing

archival materials.

We’ve Got the Numbers! Understanding and Finding Census Data

and Mapping It

Not everyone is aware that the Census Bureau does more than a 10-year

count. This workshop is divided into 4 sections: (1) An introduction that

describes the difference between Census (Decennial) data and American

Community Survey Statistics--a survey that has deep demographics, (2)

How to search for data and interpret the different tables, (3) How to Map

the data found in American Factfinder (portal), and (4) exercises given to

those in the audience so that they may practice what was taught.

Registration:

- Visit the LILRC website at ww.lilrc.org/events, complete the registration

form and return it to LILRC by fax or mail along with payment.

Payment:

- Payment can be mailed with registration or at a later date. Please

indicate on the registration that the check is to follow and when.

- Multiple workshops can be included on one check; the check will be

deposited after the conclusion of the first class.

Member Rate:

- Any individual working for a member institution is a member of LILRC

and is entitled to the member rate for workshops.

Student Rate:

- Students must be working towards a MLS degree.

- Only personal checks will be accepted for the discounted rate.

- If the payment is made by an institution, the full member/nonmember

rate must be applied.

Retired Librarian Member:

- Retired librarians can be members of LILRC with a retired librarian

membership for a $25 member fee per year, which grants the discounted

rate and one coupon.

- When a staff member retires from a LILRC institution, he/she is no

longer a member unless they join LILRC as a Retired Librarian.

Cancellation:

- In an event that you need to cancel a registration, it must be made at

least three days in advance.

- You can send someone in your place if you are unable to attend to not

lose payment.

- If registration is canceled within two days, no refunds will be given.

CEU Certificate:

- Please indicate on the registration form if you would like a FREE

Continuing Education Certificate.

Coupon:

-One (1) coupon given to every LILRC member institution entitles one (1)

FREE LILRC program registration.
