Cashier(Cajero)

Noun. An employee of a bank who receives and pays out money.

Example: “Last time I went to the bank the cashier was very rude.”

Chequebook(Chequera)

Noun. Book containing detachable cheques.

Example: “I’ve run out of cheques, so I need to buy a new chequebook.”

ATM(Cajero Automático)

Noun. Automatic Teller Machine. A machine from which you can extract money.

Example: “Yesterday I went to withdraw some money from the bank. ATM’s make the process so much shorter!”

Wallet(Billetera)

Noun. An object in which you keep your money so that it’s easy to find.

Example: “If I didn’t have a wallet, my money would be all over my bag.”

Safe(Caja fuerte)

Noun. A locked box (generally made of a resistant metal) in which you keep your money safe from thieves.

Example: “ I don’t trust the bank, so I keep all my money in a safe hidden in my house.”

Piggy Bank(Alcancía o “chanchito”)

Noun. A closed box in which you put money you’re saving. Traditionally it’s shaped like a pig, made of porcelain, and has a way in for money but not a way out, so that you have to break it to take out your savings.

Example: “I’ve been using a piggy bank for about a year. I’ll break it around summer and use the money I saved to have fun on the holidays.”

Loan(Préstamo/Prestar)

Noun. Money lent by a bank etc and that must be repaid with interest.

Verb. To loan something to someone. To lend.

Examples: “I got a loan to buy a new car.” “I loaned some money to my sister.”

Withdraw(Extraer)

Verb. To take something out of somewhere. In this case, to take money out of a bank account.

Example: “I’m planning to go on holidays, so I’ll have to withraw some money from the bank to pay for the plane tickets.”
