LIHIR INTERNATIONAL PRIMARY SCHOOL

Dear Parents / Carers, This Saturday night sees the Parents and Wantoks Committee hosting their major fundraiser for the year, the Golden Orchid Ball. This year’s theme is ‘A Night on the Oriental Express’. It promises to be an enjoyable night, which has taken much preparation from our dedicated P&W members. Helpers are needed for the set-up on Saturday and the clean-up on Sunday morning – please see Leigh Patterson-Kane.

NAPLAN. Individual student NAPLAN results were sent home this week for children in years 3, 5 and 7. If you would like to discuss these results, or would like further clarification, please do not hesitate to make an appointment to see your child’s class teacher.

Year 6/7 Trip Our year 6/7 class will travel to Brisbane next week for the biannual trip. Students will be involved in a number of educational activities including visits to Australia Zoo, Parliament House, QUT, the Museum as well as a visit to Brookfield State School. We are also lucky enough to also attend a Brisbane Broncos and a PNG Hunters game. Mr Neville, Miss Collins and Mrs Pesas will accompany the children. Mrs Jenny Thomas will be acting Principal in the absence of Mr Neville. Please note, year 6/7 students are required back at school on Wednesday the 30th August.

Each family has received a booklet of raffle tickets. Once the booklet is complete please return tickets and collected money to the office. Note: All unused booklets also need to be returned to the office ASAP. In addition, raffle tickets are being sold at the Lihir Sports & Social Club on Wednesday and Friday nights and through the school office. After School Activities Term Three Homework Club – Wednesday Year 6/7 with Miss Collins, Year 4/5 with Ms Langusch and Year 2/3 with Mrs Thomas from 3pm-4pm. Media Club – Thursday with Ms Langusch, Years 3-7 from 3pm-4pm. Hockey – Friday with Alex Butt, Prep-4 from 3pm-4pm. Rugby League – Friday with Miss Collins and Mr Neville, Years 5-7 (boys and girls) from 3pm-4pm. BOOK WEEK

The 2017 CBCA Book Week is almost here! The theme for this year is ‘Escape to Everywhere’.

Book Week runs from Saturday 19th August – Saturday 26th August. To celebrate, we will be

having special lunchtime activities in the library and our annual Book Week dress up parade.

These are the important parade details:

Date: Friday Week 6, 25th August, Week 6.

Time: straight after our regular Friday morning assembly, at about 8:30am

What to do: come dressed as your favourite book character and bring a copy of the book your
