Staging

11th Hour have an extensive range of modular stage deck systems. We are able to cater for the smallest of staging requirements through to large scale and heavy duty stage systems for large concerts and events. We are able to design staging systems and produce CAD drawings and 3D visuals to show clients the exact look and layout of any stage system. We also have an extensive array of ancillary equipment such as stair treads, ramps and ballast.

AV installation at Hay Festival

�e Hay Festival is an annual festival of literature and the arts, held in Hay-on-Wye in Powys, Wales. Beginning life in 1988, the festival has expanded to encompass a broad spectrum of cultural activities and this year’s renewal, a ten day event, welcomed more than a quarter of a million vistors. �e festival site, roughly rectangular in shape, comprises of temporary marquee structures of varying size (capacities vary from a few thousand to less than a hundred) connected by covered walkways and is located in a field on the edge of the town. �e infrastructure required to meet the needs of the festival audience and the 800 events that take place is significant. From lectures, readings, concerts and screenings, to discussions, sales, children’s activities, catering, media centre and more besides, Hay Festival presents logistical challenges that might bring a frown to even the most seasoned events professional. �is year Cardiff-based events services supplier 11th Hour was in the thick of the action having been appointed as the events’ lead production company.

Case Study

To meet the needs of the site’s eight principal venues, as well as peripheral areas on what is a very compact site, 11th Hour supplied full production, including stage and site lighting, staging, audio and AV as well as generators and mains distribution. �e provision covered a varied range of requirements, from large concerts to intimate talks.

In recent times, 11th Hour has expanded its fleet of generators to meet a growing demand for its power and distribution services and uses the very latest in efficient, environmentally friendly technology. At Hay, the company supplied over a Megawatt of power (enough to supply a small village), to support the existing land mains power supply. For key areas of the site, the power was split between generated and land mains, to make certain that show-critical elements remain online throughout the proceedings without fail.

For 11th Hour, the delivery of a successful installation at Hay was very much a case of meeting the requirements of each individual ‘site within a site’ whilst still taking account of how this approach would fit into the overall picture. �is demanded a systematic, yet flexible approach. Each separate area had its own specific needs, whether that was to provide power to stage, or to light and film a Jake Bugg or Imelda May concert, meet the demands of countless laptops in the busy media zone or supply the smallest quirky art installation. Great emphasis also had to placed on presentational aesthetics, so in each area, an assessment had to be made of the visual impact of any hardware, adding another layer of consideration to the planning.

Pete worked tirelessly during prep and particularly during the build onsite, to make sure that all demands were met smoothly. All technical elements were completed on time and to a high standard and the sub-contractors 11th Hour engaged were excellent.”

�e National Eisteddfod of Wales is one of the country’s largest cultural events. It is the largest Welsh Languagefestival in the World, and is televised via some of the most well known broadcasters including the BBC, S4C, and ITV.�e week long cultural celebration features live music, drama and literary competitions, with competitors travelling fromfar and wide across the country to be involved. �e event situates itself in a new location each year, and in 2018, the chosen location was the heart of Wales, Capital City, Cardiff. Held during the first week of August annually, the event attracts over 150,000 visitors and over 250 trade stands and stalls. �e first event was held in 1861 and has continued annually to grow. �e competitions attract over 6000 entrants and is described as Wales’ largest mobile re-generation project, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds from a different part of Wales every year

11th Hour Supply Turnkey power & Stagingfor the National Eisteddfod of Wales

11th Hour were approached by the organisers of the Eisteddfod to provide staging, stage lighting, power and distribution to the Oval Basin site in Cardiff Bay, as well as over 800m of festoon, generators and electrical safety sign offs for the campsite located in Pontcanna around 4 miles from the Cardiff Bay Site. 11th Hour also supplied site management staff for the duration of the event who managed the event site, and provide support to the event organisers on event power and lighting, responding to requirements of traders and other suppliers across the site.

Over 500 man hours have gone into the planning and logistics of the 11th Hour operation at the Eisteddfod, which includes 5 crew to erect the large Prolyte CLT stage known as “Llwyfan Y Maes” in Cardiff Bay, as well as lighting technicians, and electricians to install lighting, and generators across the site and project managers before the event to design and create detailed site drawings and plans for the organisers.
