Our Thrift Shop, located in Lottsburg at 2816 Northumberland Highway, is the main source of outreach income for the women's ministry at Light of Christ. Last year we gave over $6,000 in assistance to various agencies, both local and overseas. Approximately 33 women and men volunteer at the shop. God bless them!
To thank our faithful volunteers, we will have an Appreciation Coffee in the parish hall on Monday, June 26th at 9:30 a.m. Please save the date so you can be here to be appreciated!
Another way to help out at our Thrift Shop, (besides serving as sales staff and donating your gently used clothing and household items), is to volunteer to do some of the additional tasks, such as cleaning and ironing. Speak to Suzy Norman or Irene Haley if you have a few hours now and then to help out.
Thank you for your continued generous donations to the shop, both in goods and time!

things, and that no purpose of yours
can be thwarted.
throughout the known world, and 2000 years later,
we are still not finished. The task still seems
enormous and overwhelming when looked at in its
entirety, and yet we have the assurance of God’s
Word that He is able to accomplish all that He has
purposed. Our job is simply to be faithful to
whatever God calls us to do. It is a human tendency,
when shown how big a problem seems to be, to
think that we are only one person and can’t be
expected to deal with it. The truth is that when God’s
Spirit begins to move upon us, He is inviting us to
obediently follow Him as He uses us to overcome
the obstacle.
On June 16-18 we will have the joy and privilege of being with and hearing from Dr. Richard L. Pratt from Third Millennium Ministries. The ministry of Third Mill is a story of God placing an overwhelming burden on the heart of a seminary professor, who stepped out in faithful obedience to the urging of God and has seen God expand this ministry in unbelievable ways. Dr. Pratt was formerly the chairman of the Old Testament Department at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida, for over twenty years, and he is a well-known author, teacher, and lecturer used by God around the world. In 1994, during the Rwandan genocide, one of his students at RTS found out that his son had been butchered in the violence, and the question was raised to Dr. Pratt, “Why did this student have to be here? Why couldn’t he have been in Rwanda being trained so that he could have possibly protected his family?” That was an important question, but what could be done about it? The problem was huge but was it impossible? Dr. Pratt began praying and then acting upon the leading of God, and the Third Millennium Ministries website www.thirdmill.org tells the story of how far God has brought them. “Third Millennium Ministries was launched in 1997 to create multimedia curriculum for Christian leaders everywhere. Today, Third Millennium Ministries employs a team of over 40 full-time and part-time employees and over 16 translators from around the world. We focus on five target languages: English, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, and Spanish. These languages cover 42 percent of the world's population. Our materials are also translated into other languages including Farsi (Iran), Turkish, French, Mongolian, several African Arabic dialects, Amharic (Ethiopia), Hindi, and several other languages of India.”
As I write this article, we are almost at the
end of the Easter season, and we are preparing for
the season where we remember the outpouring of
the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Through the readings
of the Easter season, I was reminded of what it
must have been like for the disciples to encounter
the resurrected Lord, but still wonder where all this
was going to take them. On the day of Pentecost,
the Holy Spirit was poured out in a way more
powerful than ever before, and the disciples were
radically changed from the inside out. It was the
beginning of the Christian church, and there was so
much excitement as thousands came to faith in
Jesus Christ, and the miracles once performed by
Jesus were continuing through the ministry of His
disciples. Then there came the story of the stoning
of Stephen and the beginning of the persecution of
the church. The church was scattered throughout
Judea and Samaria and then to the ends of the
earth as the disciples went to all the nations with
the good news of the Gospel.
It’s a powerful and wonderful story, but I still
think about what it must have been like for the
disciples as they took the Gospel message to lands
where it was not immediately embraced and they
often were severely persecuted or killed. Can you
imagine being confronted with the enormity of the
task? Because they chose to be obedient to the call
of God on their lives, the church eventually spread
Proverbs 19:21 Many are the plans in the mind of a
man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
Daniel 4:34-35 At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar,
lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me,
and I blessed the Most High, and praised and
honored him who lives forever, for his dominion is an
everlasting dominion, and his kingdom endures from
generation to generation; all the inhabitants of the earth
are accounted as nothing, and he does according to his
will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants
of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him,
“What have you done?”

Light of Christ will have a table at the August Farmer’s Market in Heathsville on August 19th and we’ll be selling baked goods. This is a parish- wide event sponsored by the Light of Christ Women’s Ministry. The proceeds will increase our giving to community agencies. This event is always lots of fun! It is a great way to spend time with friends, and it provides an opportunity to talk about our church and spread the light of Christ to all we meet.
What is needed? We need a volunteer to organize this event.
Melinda Floom has all the information needed to make this an easy task.
We also need a team of people to set up and take down the table, chairs, and tent. This will require a truck for transporting items to and from the church. Two men would be helpful for this task, or two couples who could work together on this.
We’ll need plenty of baked goodies! We’ll package and price these the day before.
Dear Sisters and Brothers at Light of Christ,
Thank you for your prayers and
encouragement as Lynne and I go through our
ordeal with my cancer. There is no feeling like the
prayers of the saints surrounding us and covering
us as we seek God’s blessing. We know His plans
are perfect. Being His witnesses in the midst of
the good and the bad is a great
privilege, and we are at peace.
We look forward to the unfolding
of His grace in the days ahead.
Love, Jeff Cerar
Ladies - Save the date! Our annual women’s retreat will be held
on Saturday, July 29th at Rappahannock
Westminster-Canterbury in Irvington. This
will be a one-day retreat with an exciting
program that is still in the planning stages.
Please mark your calendars, plan to
attend, and invite a friend!

The church is growing around the world at a phenomenal rate but there are very few well-trained pastors, and this is a huge problem that is being addressed by Third Mill. Their mission statement says it all, “Our mission is to prepare Christian leaders to lead a transformation of the world into God's Kingdom by providing biblical education, for the world, for free.
Our top priority is to spread the will of God to every corner of the earth through the Gospel of Christ. So, Third Millennium Ministries is preparing an in-depth biblical education for Christian leaders around the world in their languages, for their lands, and absolutely free.
Our mission is being fulfilled at this very moment. DVD, online streaming, radio, satellite, TV broadcast — we do it all.”
Dr. Pratt will be teaching here at Light of
Christ at 7 p.m. Friday, June 16th and from 10 a.m.
to noon on Saturday morning June 17th,
and will
preach here on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. Please
plan on being at Light of Christ for these events,
and please invite others to share in the vision of
this ministry raised up for such a time as this.

Book Review
Worship His Majesty By Jack Hayford
Reviewed by Jeanne Hickey
Of all the contemporary praise songs, “Majesty,” written by Jack Hayford and published in 1981, is probably
the most beloved. In this book, packed with Biblical insights, author Jack Hayford explains the inspiration for the
song, the definition, history and purpose of Hebrew worship, and the mandate for the New Testament Church to be
an exultant, rejoicing, worshipful body. By the conclusion, one can clearly understand that the consequence of
dynamic praise and worship is that the church will constantly be renewed and empowered by the Holy Spirit and will
naturally flow outward infusing and influencing the world.
Hayford’s purpose in writing this book is to begin a “reformation breakthrough” and “rebuild the
foundations of worship.” This, of course, assumes that something has been lost or broken and is in need of reform.
He explains that when the “weight of glory” is drained by perfunctory performance from practices that were once the
fruit of people seeking God and finding Him in the Word, then there is no resting place for God’s glory. He
challenges believers to yield their hearts and, like David, humble themselves, so that worship precedes all and
becomes an outpouring of love, an instrument of miracles and warfare, and an exaltation of an awesome God.
Hayford points out, echoing the apostle Peter, that Christians have a dual calling as priests and kings: “Our
role as worshipping priests is the means to our role as reigning kings” [But you are a chosen people, a royal
priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of
darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9] We are to be “a bridge between Heaven’s throne and Earth’s needs.”
Yet, Hayford acknowledges that our efforts are often out of sync with God’s purposes because we do not know how
to receive what God is willing to freely give. And this is where “Worship His Majesty” shines a light on the why’s
and how to’s that will help readers mature in their understanding and practice of worship.
We are reminded that in the Book of Revelation, John was gripped by the reality of Christ’s majestic person,
His authoritative position, and His consummate power, and that through worship in spirit and truth, we too can
experience our own vision. When we have seen His person, we will be transformed and equipped to accomplish His
great commission.
I could go on and on, but will leave it for you to discover! May your cup of rejoicing overflow!
Editor’s Note: This book is available for check out from our church library, as are all books we offer for review in our newsletter.
Worship is an active response to the character,
words and actions of God, initiated by His
revelation and enabled by His redemption,
whereby the mind is transformed (e.g. belief,
repentance), the heart is renewed (e.g. love, trust),
and actions are surrendered (e.g. obedience,
service), all in accordance with His will and in order
to declare His infinite worthiness.
In both Hebrew and Greek, there are two
categories of words for worship. The first is about
body language that demonstrates respect and
submission; to bow down, to kneel, to prostrate
oneself. The second is about doing something for
God that demonstrates sacrifice.
Majesty
Majesty, worship His majesty.
Unto Jesus be all glory, honor, and praise.
Majesty, kingdom authority
Flow from His throne unto His own;
His anthem raise.
So, exalt, lift up on high
The name of Jesus.
Magnify, come, glorify
Christ Jesus the King.

Finishing Life God’s Way
Over the past year, the women’s ministry has been exploring issues that concern all of us
throughout our life span. One of these critical issues is the need for planning, organizing, and
communicating our intentions regarding end-of-life care. Health care decisions and advocacy usually
become the responsibilities of adult children or grandchildren in conjunction with health care
professionals. Are these the people who know what you would desire, especially if they do not share
your Christian beliefs? Have you spoken with your family about your wishes, or organized your
important information and told your family where it is located? It is a fact that all of us will die at
some point, so we need to be proactive about these matters.
Anglicans for Life publishes a booklet entitled, “Finishing Life God’s Way,” which we have
duplicated (with permission) for our members, or you can go online to www.AnglicansForLife.org to
use the online format. Copies of the booklet are available in the parish hall and in the church office.
This is just one of many excellent resources to assist you in organizing your affairs.
The booklet contains a section on funeral plans. If you would like Light of Christ to have
information on file regarding your wishes for funeral plans, please give this information to
Margaret in the office. If you have questions, or would like to discuss end-of-life issues, please see
one of the clergy.

From Alpha to Omega An Overview of the Bible
A New Book by Stanley D. Rasberry
Stan Rasberry’s new book, From Alpha to Omega, will be available for purchase at Light of Christ on Sunday,
June 11th at a signing event during the coffee hour immediately following our 10:00 a.m. worship. The cost for
each book purchased from the author is $10.
The Bible is a guidebook to all times and for all places—from alpha to omega. But many people have found it to be
filled with mysteries and difficult to read. The new reader is daunted by its length, span of history, and diversity of
unfamiliar characters. Even the reader who has years of experience reading it may feel a lack of comprehensive
understanding. From Alpha to Omega is a short handbook that can help with both of these problems. With it in
hand, the reader can see the Bible with fresh eyes.
The book presents the important place of Jesus throughout the Scripture, connecting the Old Testament with the
New. The flow of God’s interaction with mankind is mapped out from
the beginning through the first few centuries of the church. Sixteen
tables summarize key points to guide the reader’s overall view of Bible
events and themes. While the book is not overly “theological” in
presentation, a glossary is provided to help with unfamiliar terms.
From Alpha to Omega is also available from Amazon for $18, plus
shipping.
