I choosen ligers as my topic, because it is a very interesting topic to learn about,this rare species, and a lot of people don’t know alot about ligers.ligers are unique. Ligers is a animal that results from the cross-breeding of two distinctive big cats. It is an offspring, that results from an intercourse in between male lion and female tiger (Lion and tigress). This cross-breeding does not happen in wild, but rather this cross breeding takes place in zoos and captivity in different countries around the world. A liger is purely a carnivore animal. Ligers are the biggest meat consuming carnivore in the world. Ligers are the biggest among the cat species and also biggest among the carnivore species as well.

Liger is officially declared as the biggest wild cat (Panther) in the world. Ligers are very large animals. Their weight can easily surpass 1000 pounds. Ligers can gain a length of 12 to 14 feet which makes this animal a huge beast. Ligers are larger than tigers and lions. Both the parents of a liger which are lion as its father and female tiger as its mother are less than half the size of the ligers. Previously tigers specifically the ones from Siberian origin or Amur Tigers were believed to be the biggest cats on the planets. Now it is the ligers turn to become the biggest cats on earth in the book records.

Since the ligers are the hybrids of the male lion and the female tiger, their appearances may take one dominant gene of one parent on different accounts. Female ligers appear to be almost the same.The real variance comes in the male ligers in terms of their appearances. The most obvious one is that some male ligers have manes while some male ligers have no mane.The manes of the ligers are not so big. In the positive way, the manes of the ligers are moderate in size, and they look well groomed under those manes as compared to the wild bushy manes of the lions. Some female ligers are very much like the lionesses. They even do not have any such kind of stripes. However, some female ligers have very dark browned color stripes on their back. The same is true about the male ligers as well. When the ligers are young, the stripes at their bodies are very visible; as they become older the stripes fade away and become very dim.

According to some other statements, in a one particular day a liger takes about 50 pounds of meat. That will be nearly 23 kilograms of meat. A liger named as Samson at the Spirit of the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary at Dakota consumed about 30 to 50 pounds of meat. One of the most favorite foods of this liger includes beef, elk and venison.
