Welcome to sugarbush

OBSERVE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY CODE:1. Always stay in control, and be able to stop or avoid other people

or objects.2. People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility

to avoid them.3. You must not stop where you obstruct a trail or are not visible from

above.4. Whenever starting downhill or merging into a trail, look uphill and

yield to others.5. Always use devices to help prevent runaway equipment.6. Observe all posted signs and warnings. Keep off closed trails and

out of closed areas.7. Prior to using any lift, you must have the knowledge and ability to

load, ride and unload safely.

Failure to abide in this code will result in loss of priveledges.

SKI/RIDE WITH CAUTION AND IN CONTROL. VERMONT LAW states, “person who takes part in any sport accepts as a matter of law the inherent dangers therein insofar as they are obvious and necessary.” All poles, fences, signage and padding are used to inform you of the presence or location of potential hazards; these markers are no guarantee of your safety and will not protect you from injury. Your ticket or pass is revocable and may be confiscated by any Resort representative if Holder engages in any improper conduct that endangers Holder or others, or constitutes a nuisance. Skiing/riding on a trail or a portion of trail not designated as open places yourself and others in jeopardy and may result in loss of ticket/pass. Caution: snowcats, snowmobiles, and snowmaking may be encountered at any time.

REPORTING COLLISIONS. VERMONT LAW REQUIRES ALL SKIER/RIDERS INVOLVED IN AN ON-HILL COLLISION TO EXCHANGE INFORMATION AT THE FIRST AID STATION.

LIFT SAFETY. Be advised that you cannot board a lift unless you have sufficient ability and knowledge to do so safely, or have asked for and received information to enable you to load, ride, and unload safely. Check out www.kidsonlifts.org for more info.

HELMETS ARE A SMART IDEA. Sugarbush encourages you to educate yourself on the benefits and limitations of helmets. If you choose to wear one, ski or ride as if you are not wearing one. Every winter sports participant shares in the responsibility for his/her safety. Check out www.lidsonkids.org for more info.

SLOW SKIING/RIDING ZONES are designed as a courtesy to our guests. Please maintain a speed no faster than the general flow of traffic. Fast and aggressive skiing/riding in these areas will not be tolerated.

OPEN AND DESIGNATED TRAILS at Sugarbush are those trails or portions of trails posted as open for skiing or riding, but limited by trail markings, grooming, natural and/or man-made terrain features or other conditions.

The designated portion of any open trail varies based upon weather conditions and skier/rider use. All other areas of the mountain are not considered open and designated trails. Stay away from trail edges, tree lines and other potentially hazardous areas. Caution: If you ski/ride in areas other than open and designated trails, you are voluntarily accepting additional responsibility for injury or death. These areas are not maintained or patrolled. You are assuming risks that may include getting lost or suffering other harm or damage, and losing your ticket/pass.

Sugarbush was founded in December 1958 by Damon and Sara Gadd. The Gadds brought well-known figures to work for the resort such as the first Ski School Director Peter Estin, Norwegian Olympic Gold Medalist Stein Eriksen, and Austrian Ski School Director Sigi Grottendorfer. This group drew big-name guests to the resort, and after a Vogue Magazine photo shoot, the resort earned the nickname “Mascara Mountain”. Roy Cohen purchased the resort in 1977, and two years later, Cohen took over neighboring mountain Glen Ellen.

In January of 2020, Alterra Mountain Company purchased Sugarbush from majority owner, Win Smith. Under Win’s ownership, Sugarbush invested over $70 million in mountain improvements including a new base area at Lincoln Peak, 7 new lifts, and significant upgrades to its snowmaking system. Alterra Mountain Company comprises 15 resorts in the U.S. and Canada, and its Ikon Pass gives access to 44 worldwide destinations.

Sugarbush boasts six distinct peaks across two mountains areas, 2,000 acres of wilderness in between, and offers some of the finest skiing in the East.

Sugarbush Health and Recreation Center offers a free-weight and cardio room, spin classes, tennis courts, indoor pool, and massages. All resort lodging guests receive complimentary access. Locker rooms are available for pool guests to change quickly. Occupancy limits are in place for all activities to meet state and local guidelines. Kids Adventure Zone, showers, hot tub, sauna and steam room will remain closed for the season. Advance reservations are required. Please call 802-583-6700 and visit sugarbush.com for more information.

Sugarbush offers a progressive park where skiers and riders can master their freestyle skills. Our award-winning parks include terrain features for all abilities.

FREESTYLE TERRAIN AREASFreestyle terrain areas are designated with an orange oval and may contain jumps, hits, rails, stairs and other constructed or natural terrain features. Prior to using this terrain, you are responsible for familiarizing yourself with freestyle terrain and obeying all instructions, warnings, and signs. Freestyle skills require maintaining control on the ground and in the air. Inverted aerials are not recommended. You assume the risk. Start small and work your way up.
