STARS OF GOLD ....

There are blue stars in many windows in Trentonwhere young men and women have gone to war. Someday these silent sentinels will have completed their longvigils, and perhaps some may be forgotten in the joys ofreunion.

But not all the stars will be forgotten. Alreadysome of the blue stars have been taken down by unwillinghands, which might have trembled a little and shamelesslywiped away a tear, as the blue stars were replaced by starsof gold.

It is with deep humility and respect that we dedicate the 1945 Tawana to those former students of Trenton High School and Junior College for whom blue starsare now proudly displayed, and to the memory of those forwhom gold stars shine in evidence of a job well done—ofthose whose memory shall ever remain a part of us.

5. M. RISSLERSUPERINTENDENT

Not many students have an opportunity to comein contact with Mr. Risslcr a great deal. In factsome of them apparently believe th.it only for capital crimes or other dire offenses are they sent "inth?rc."

We ventured "in there" a number of times thisyear and never did we find Mr. Rissler too busy tohear our troubles or to help iron out a troublesomesituation.

His untiring aid to the few junior college students in arranging schedules to fit varied needs wasgreatly appreciated, and we sympathize with him inhis task of keeping the junior college on its feetthrough these "lean years."

GERALD W. MUNDAY

PRINCIPAL

Now that Mr. Munday has completed his thirdyear as principal at Trenton High School, he ispretty firmly established as a part of the institution.During his third year here, as in the preceding two,he has been confronted with many problems both inadministration and in matters concerning students. In both fields he has proven quite capable.

In his capacity as principal and as a friend, Mr.Munday has won the respect and admiration of hisstudents. We add our applause to that which heinvariably received every time he appeared to make"announcements" in assembly.

THERE IS AN OLD SAYING ...

... to the effect that a lack in quantity mightwell be offset by an increase in quality.

Perhaps it's mere conceit—or an attempt to console ourselves—but we believe the old "quantity-quality"adage applies aptly to the junior college student body thisyear. At least we believe the few J. C* students havemaintained the 'quality' end of the deal.

The year began with only a couple of dozen hardysouls braving the concentrated attention of teachers whopromised the usual "treatment," And as the year woreon, the rolls of T. J. C. were slashed, as one student afteranother sought other horizons.

Even before the first semester had dragged its lazyweeks past drudging students, two of our number were inthe Navy, and as the year progressed other calls provedmore tempting—or more demanding!

But still there were those inevitable parties inSpanish class, those odorous mixtures in chemistry, andthe alarming disregard for J. C. students by practicallyeveryone (i. e.—G. W. M.). And still we awaited thatcoke promised by one of our faculty friends.

But after Mrs. Hill was unable to be with us, somehow there was a difference that was hard to accept juniorcollege was hardly the same then.

Considering everything, though, we few who havemade it through this year at T. J. C. believe that our sojourn here can be termed 'successful,' and the time we'vespent here will not be forgotten.

Small but mighty could very well have been the theme of the Phi Mu Epsilon this year. Eventhough the membership is the simllest since its orgaftization in 192J, every undertaking has been a greatsuccess.ess. . . , , .

We were amazed to find that there were only^two active members to start the years work. Nevertheless, the formal pledge tea was a big success. Then came initiation with two pledge days followed bya Halloween dance. , . j i tl i i .

Even money-making projects have reached their desired goal. There was the candy sale when all thecandy was sold out five minutes before it was to go on sale, and the two plays, Fortune Is a Cowboy,"and "The Dummy," given by sorority members and four junior col ege boys.

Anew program theme was introduced by Mrs. Jeanette Rob'son, who discussed with the membersat a series of meetings the topic of "How to Get a Job an i° c i j- j ...

The outstanding achievement of the year was the annual formal dinner dance which was held "spite of adverse conditions, and finally the last meeting of the school year, which is annually devoteda progressive dinner.

The Trenton chapter of the National Honor Society was organized this year with 14 charter members. Only seniors were eligible for membership, and all those who had maintained an average grade of"S" for seven semesters automatically became candidates.

Candidates were rated by the faculty and by each other. Then a council of teachers studied a composite rating and made recommendations for membership. Final acceptance depended on the report ofthese teachers, who passed on candidates' character, leadership and service qualifications.

The chapter's charter was presented at installation ceremonies at an assembly, when charter members were presented gold membership pins. Mr, Rissler spoke on a double theme, "A Charge to CharterMembers—A Challenge to the Student Body."

Founded in 1921, the Society has chapters in every state in the United States, in Hawaii, PanamaArgentina, Juerto Rico and China. The Trenton chapter is number 2898. '

The small junior college enrollment this year did not prevent the presentation of the annual collegeplay, although a high school senior had to be drafted for a major part.

Many long hours of practice, dress rehearsals, and gathering stage properties—an qdd assortmentincluding a hall tree, skiis, a motorcycle and a bouquet .of poison ivy—were climaxed Friday night'April 4, with the presentation of "Brother Goose" before an appreciative audience in the high schoolauditorium.

Following a custom of long standing, high school seniors from Trenton and surrounding towns wereguests for the production.

Louis Watkins had the title role atf "Brother Goose," who was trying to raise a younger brother andtwo sisters, and at the same time attempting to keep up his architectural work and hire a new maid

This year's football team developed into one of the best teams in the school's history. Although they did not have many regulars back from last year, 50 boys reported for practice atthe beginning of the season and completed a very successful season. The Bulldogs were udefeat-ed and untied in all seven games on their schedule.

Ten of the first eleven members of the team won places on the honorary ail-conferenceteam, and "Sod" Harris and Clarence Wilcox were named Co-Captains.

Tihe season was climaxed when Trenton defeated Chillicothe 47 to 0 at our first annualHomecoming.

HOMECOMING

THE QUEEN AND HER ATTENDANTS—From left to riffht: Justine Graham, junior; Louise Bulyar. senior; Dixie Walker, thequeen; Christine Brown, sophomore, and Madolyn Wilson, freshman.

When the excitement and celebration of November 10 subsided, our first annual Homecoming was acclaimed a "huge" success.

Under the direction of senior class president Rollin Richardson, with the enthusiastic support and approval of both students and townspeople, the celebration was given a rousing send-off as one of Trenton High School's annual events.

Dixie Walker was chosen queen, reigning over the day's activities with her four attendants:Louise Bulyar, senior; Justine Graham, junior; Christine Brown, sophomore; and Madolyn Wilson, freshman. The queen and attendants were chosen by the football squad.

A colorful parade with floats, a band, drum majorettes, a color guard, the queen, etc., opened the day's events. The Future Farmers' float won first place; the Rotary club took kcond, and the Lions club was awarded third. The most popular float was a doctor's buggy with a storkperched on one side—and Mr. Munday driving.

An overflow crowd saw the Bulldogs plaster the Chillicothe Hornets that afternoon andwitnessed the coronation ceremonies at the half. About 200 persons attended the dance chat nightin the high school gymnasium, and Chillicothe students were invited.

The Bulldogs were a tough team to stop this year, and only the undefeated Wentworth Cadets out-scored them in conference competition. The Trenton cagers dropped both games in loop play to the Academy squad, but edged out the Cadets in the Chillicothe tournament in the third-place playoff.

Trenton was second in the sub-regional tournament at Bethany, losing only to the Gilman Cityteam after holding a lead until the fourth quarter. Gilman City also won the regional tournament andplayed in the state contest.

Four members of this year's team won places on the all-conference teams. Harry Mayo and CorwinTracy were named to the first squad and Eugene Garrison and Erwin Harris on the second five Mawas chosen at center, Tracy and Harris at guard, and Garrison at forward. Clarence Wilcox was theother member of the Bulldogs' regular starting lineup.
