Transcript of LifeLines - Lord of Life Lutheran · 4 Marlo Rasmussen 5 Douglas Perrien, Wesley Tabor, Karen...
assured us that trials will come to His
followers (John 1633) Discipleship
demands sacrifice and Jesus never hid
that cost Consider these questions
Are you willing to follow Jesus if it
means losing some of your closest
friends Are you willing to follow Jesus
if it means alienation from your family
Are you willing to follow Jesus if it
means the loss of your reputation
Are you willing to follow Jesus if it
means losing your job Are you willing
to follow Jesus if it means losing your
life
In some places of the world these
consequences are reality Following
Jesus doesnrsquot necessarily mean all
these things will happen to you If
there comes a point in your life where
you are faced with a choicemdashJesus or
the comforts of this lifemdashwhich will
you choose Commitment to Christ
means taking up your cross daily giv-
ing up your hopes dreams posses-
sions even your very life if need be for
the cause of Christ The reward is
worth the price ldquoFor whoever wants
to save his life will lose it but whoever
loses his life for me will find
itrdquo (Matthew 1625-26)
Pastor David Linkugel
There were great crowds following
Jesus Everyone loved the miracles
healing and free food Jesus was cool
the talk of the town and the latest
fad But He knew their hearts They
loved His gifts not the life He was
calling them to So Jesus explained
what it takes to be one of His follow-
ers He said ldquoTake up your cross and
follow Merdquo Many people interpret
ldquocrossrdquo as some burden they must
carry in their lives a strained relation-
ship a thankless job or a physical ill-
ness Thatrsquos not what Jesus meant
In the first-century the cross meant
one thing painful and humiliating
death Two thousand years later we
view the cross as a cherished symbol
of atonement forgiveness grace and
love But in Jesusrsquo day the cross rep-
resented torturous death Because the
Romans forced convicted criminals to
carry their own crosses to the place
of crucifixion bearing a cross meant
carrying their own execution device
while facing ridicule along the way to
death
Following Jesus is easy when life
runs smoothly our true commitment
to Him is revealed during trials Jesus

The Lifestyle of Faithful Stewards CS Lewis said ldquoThere are two kinds of people those who say to God lsquoThy will be donersquo and those to
whom God says lsquoAll right then have it your wayrsquo rdquo As redeemed children of God of course we desire to
belong to that first category ldquoThy will be donerdquo
On Sundays October 13 20 27 and November 3 the theme of our worship services will be the lifestyle
of faithful stewards We will learn how the Holy Spirit working through Word and Sacrament transforms
us to be more like our Chief Steward Jesus Who willingly poured out His life in giving and serving ulti-
mately sacrificing His very life for our eternal lives
As your pastor I pray that each of you will take advantage of these
opportunities to grow in the grace and knowledge of your Lord that you
might be strengthened in faith both for eternity and for a fruitful life here
on earth
The themes for the four Sundays are as follows
October 13 ldquoBuilding Relationshipsrdquo
October 20 ldquoWitnessing for Jesusrdquo
October 27 ldquoLiving as a Servantrdquo
November 3 ldquoGiving Joyfully and Generouslyrdquo (Commitment Sunday)
ldquoTherefore my dear brothers stand firm Let nothing move you Always
give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord because you know that
your labor in the Lord is not in vainrdquo (1 Corinthians 1558)

Live Differently Based on the life of Daniel the 2014 tour will
challenge students to live differentlyto live in reverse Those who live in reverse are the ones who change
culture - and who ultimately end up changing the world Thats because they Dream a different dream (have
a vision of the Ancient of Days and the Son of Man) Take a different stand (bow when others stand stand
when others bow) Live a different life (excellence in what they do evangelistic in their approach)
