Life Membership cont.:
Bert Foster – Treasurer
Bert was Treasurer of Hurstville Computer Club for 10 years.
He moved his family to Winmalee in 2002 and was look-ing around for a Computer Club. He dropped into the Penrith Seniors Centre where the Computer Club was conducting a Committee Meeting. It was there he was appointed Treasurer in 2003.
Bert was always a bit of a “Tech Head” and during his working life was involved in the installations of phone systems in large companies and also Hospitals.
Tom Lehane – Webmaster, Newsletter Editor and
Tutor
In 1999 the company Tom was working for closed down and he worked for other companies prior to retiring. His initiation into computers really started in 1982 when his daughter came home from school and said she required a computer for school work. Tom of course complied and the best buy at the time was a Tandy Colour Com-puter or COCO for short. Tom learnt to use it from the Tandy manual and also joined a small computer group located over the railway line in Penrith. One day a fel-low came into the Club to have a chat with Tom indicat-ing he wanted some programmes to put in the Comput-er Magazine and Tom and another fellow learned how to do this. Payment was by way of free subscription to the Computer Magazine, no such thing as copyright or patent. He produced a programme called Linemaster and it was accepted worldwide. His interest in comput-ers brought him to the Penrith Valley Seniors Computing Club via an item on the Community Radio in Penrith. When he came along they wanted to know what experi-ence he had but being the modest man he is, he just mentioned 3.11 but by this time Windows 95 was the current system. He joined the Club and at one of the Club Christmas Parties someone asked him to conduct a class which he did. The initial class was “People Us-ing Software”. At a later date he conducted classes us-ing “Gimp” which was extremely popular.

More Windows 8.1 Tips:
Take & Save Screenshots Instantly Windows 8 has a new hotkey combination that lets you take and save screenshots instantly. To take a screenshot, hold the Windows key down and press the Print Screen key. Your screen will flash and Windows will save a screenshot to your Pictures folder as a PNG image file.
Disposal of unwanted Equipment:
You would like working equipment that you no longer use to go to a new home. The Club does not object to you placing this equipment on the first table in the room with a sign saying availa-
ble for FREE.
BUT please remove your equipment if it has not been taken after 3 weeks.
The Club is not a dumping ground for outdated Equipment.
Better still contact your local Council about their E Waste Recycling Policy.
Example Penrith Council: FREE E-WASTE DROP OFF DAYS AT JAMISON PARK
Council holds regular free e-waste drop off days at Jamison Park, Penrith - usually each March and September.
