LIBYA HISTORY

� Prior to WWII Libya was an Italiancolony

� After WWII it came under English &French control as a UN trusteeship in

1947� On 21 Nov 1949, UN General

Assembly passed a resolution thatLibya should become independent.

Libya got independence on 24 Dec1951.

� 25 April 1963, federal system of government was abolished &kingship was established.

MUAMMAR MAHUMMAD GADDAFI

� Leader of Libya since 1969.

� Born on 7th June 1942.

� Longest serving of all currentnon royal national leaders.

� On 1/9/1969, in a coupe over

threw the kingship andproclaimed the LIBYAN ARAB

REPUBLIC.
