Tape Technology will be obsolete when... Electricity is free And physical storage space is plentiful When people are honest And there are no more viruses or malicious code When no-one makes a mistake in backup or data handling And government regulations for data retention and security

have gone away When there are no more natural disasters And when hardware and software never fails

High availability: Data Path Failover

Drive connection using HP data path failover. • Both ports of the drive are physically

connected but only one is active. • Both ports are configured identically. • If a link failure is detected on the active port

the drive automatically deactivates that link and activates the standby link using the exact same names, reservations, encryption settings, etc.

• Host may detect momentary connection loss then the drive connection recovers.

Creates access to data on an LTO-6 tape cartridge that’s similar to a 6.25TB* memory stick!

What is HP Linear Tape File System (LTFS)?A file system for tape!• It presents a LTO tape as another

drive letter, icon or folder like a disk or memory stick

• Manage files easily with drag and drop directory tree access

• Uses LTO-5 or LTO-6 dual partition capability to store the index and the content

Self-Describing Tape• No application software

dependencies• Cross platform sharing of file-based

as well as unstructured content• Ideal for managing long term

archives

Reducing storage costs – combining tape with diskPutting cold data on ice

– Estimates suggest that over 95% of data is never accessed again beyond 90 days after creation*

– Actively archive older data from disk to less expensive tape

– Why fly all you data first class when coach will do?

Delivering the most economical storage– Saves power and cooling costs– Minimizes floor-space utilization– Infinitely scalable– 30-year shelf-life for LTO Media enables long-

term retentionProviding the last line of defense

– Inherently off-line to threats from virus, hackers, or mirroring errors

– Easily removable for off-site storage – protects against natural disasters, fire, flood, building collapse

– Easy to use – bulk load, unload and storage of media

– High performance restores of large files
