Library – FAQ 1. Why no 24 hour library? Insufficient staff to assist and to ensure safety after working hours. TULC has an 24/7 room for studying that opens 24/7 2. Quiet place to study? There are designated areas indicated by signage 3. Discussion room reservation First come first serve basis. No advance booking. Can be done at the enquiry desk using Studend ID card 4. Food and drinks? Drinks in containers are okay. Food is prohibited. 5. Can borrow how many books? Up to 10 books at any time (also depends on Student/Staff privileges) 6. How to borrow items? First, you need a library card (student ID?). Bring the items to the self-service units and follow instructions to check out. 7. How long can I borrow? Main collection can be up to 14 days. Renewal can be made after that 14 days. 8. How to renew? Access online catalogue. Log in using Student number and password, go to My Account. Select items you want to renew by clicking select for renewal then click on the renew button. A message will pop up if the renewal is successful. 9. Request or reserve book? Via online catalogue. If the item is being borrowed, it can be requested to put on hold, so the item will not be renewed and you’re the first in line to bottow. A Request button is next to the item and just enter the required. Available items can not be requested Requested items will be held at the Lending Services Counter for 3 days after the item becomes available Check your status in My Account. Status can change to Pending to Pick-Up when the item is available. Not claiming the item in 3 days will result in the book being returned to the shelved. 10. Borrow from other Taylor’s libraries?

Why not able to borrow an item?Owes fine to or in excess of RM5. Just make a payment towards the amount you owe in full especially for missing books.13. Why not able to renew borrowed item?Already renewed the item once, somebody has requested already, borrowing privileges has been suspended and the item has passed its due date.14. Overdue notice for a book that has been already returned?Bring the notice to lending services desk and search for the place item. Students might be requested to look for the item to verity its returned. 15. How to see check out books online?My account. Username, library number, password, student number. 16. Fines for late returns?Main collection, RM1 per day. Reserve collection, 50cents per hour or part thereof. If outstanding amount is more than RM5 in fines, requesting or borrowing will not be available.17. How to check overdue fines?My account18. Where to pay fine?Lending Services Desk19. Unpaid fines, no graduating?Students expected to clear outstanding payments, if not will be referred to Finance Department20. Where to return?Book returns machine21. Where to find materials that lecturer has placed in Reserve?Reserve collection, near the Lending Services Desk. 22. How long to keep a reserve collection item?Up to 2 hour. After 2pm, the item maybe borrowed as an overnight loan and must be returned by 9am the following day. If Friday, must returned to the following 9am. 23. Document Delivery Service?For academic staff and postgrad students for teaching, learning and research activities. Can only request if the articles/journals/conference papers/book chapters are not held by Taylors Libraries. 24. Where to make a Document Delivery request?Make sure the item is not being held here, then submit the form which can be found in the homepage and email it to [email protected]. How long for the items to arrive?It depends on the availability of the material and copyright/publisher restrictions. The delivery item may vary on the type of item requested, location of the supplying library and delivery method. All requests are process within 5 working days and library may require up to 45 days to fullfill. Beyond 45 days, requestors will be informed of the status of their requests. 26. Where to collect the document?Articles are delivered electronically to the requestors Taylors email address with instructions on how to download the article together with the link to the article. If a hardcopy is given, a scanned copy will be sent via email. 27. Cost?FOC, requires approval by the Dean.28. Intra- Library Loan?Can access materials from other libraries located across Taylors campuses.29. Pay?FOC30. How to make a request?Make sure the item is not at the campus, then fill up the form that can be found at the home page.31. When will it arrive?Once submitted, it will take 3 working days for the item to arrive at the library and will notify via email.32. Where to pick up?Lending Services Desk33. What is the loan period?14 days34. Where to return?At any Taylors libraries35. If borrowed item is lost?After report, a search will be conducted in the library. If not found, the replacement cost will be informed which includes the cost of the time, any fines owing on the item and a processing fee of RM50. Once the replacement costs is paid, then record will be clear.The amount fine will be recorded on the day it the item is reported lost. 36. If found?Normal overdue fines are payable up to the day being checked in to the library. 37. What if found after the replacement cost?No refunds. For more info on the invoicing procedure, contact Lending services Desk.38. Replace the item?Yes, with an acceptable replacement. 39. Copies of all text books?Yes, according to the reading list given by the school available in Main Collection and Reserve Collection sections40. List of text books that are required for the class?As the schools Programme Officer or the lecturers41. Workshops or classes using library resources?Yes, for using and navigating the library catalogue and online database students. Just ask the lecturers to contact any of the librarians to schedule a class for them.42. Access the library resources off-campus?Just go to the homepage, and if requires login, just use taylors pc login43. Who can access online resources off-campus?All full time staff and current students44. Login and Password?Same
