How to use the hotplates

The ceramic surface of the hob allows a fast transmission of heat in the vertical direction, from the heating elements underneath the ceramic glass to the pans sat on it.

The heat does not spread in the horizontal direction, so that the glass stays “cool” at only afew centimeters from the cooking plate.

The 4 cooking plates are shown by dark disks on the ceramic surface.

Fig. 8Fig. 7

Radiant hotplate control knob:The radiant hotplates are controlled by a 6-position control switch (fig. 7).

Halogen hotplate control knob:The halogen hotplate is controlled by a energy regulator switch (fig. 8).The heat power of the halogen hotplate can be adjusted without steps from “0” to its max“12”.

Residual heat indicator

The hob also features 4 warning lamps which are wired to the corresponding plate.

When the temperature of a cooking plate is over 60°C, the relevant warning lamp lights up towarn of heat on the surface of the hob.

This lamp also stays on after the cooking plate has been switched off to shown that the hobsurface is still hot. This residual heat lasts for a rather long time after the cooking plate has been switched off.

During this spell of time you should avoid touching the hob surface over the cookingplate.

The lamp will switch off automatically as soon as the surface temperature of the cookingplate falls below 60°C.

Cooking hints

– To reduce the cooking time, you can turn the control knob to the max when you switchthe plate on.After a short time you set the control knob to the required position for the cooking.

– You should use pots and pans with flat bases. The diameter of the pan should match that of the cooking plate (or be slightly bigger) tomake the most of the energy.

– Since the cooking surface stays hot for a certain time after the plate has been switched off,you can switch it off minutes before the end of the cooking. The residual heat of the hob will terminate the cooking.

– To save electricity, use lids whenever possible.

WARNING: The hotplates become very hot with use, andretain their heat for a long time after use. Children should besupervised at all times and be prevented from touching thehot surfaces, until such time as the appliance has cooled.

Light The oven light is switched on.

Oven It is advisable to preheat the oven until the set temperature has been reachedi.e: when the indicator light above the function selector goes off. Duringcooking, do not open the door unless it is absolutely necessary.

Grill Always grill with the oven door closed and do not use the grill forlonger than 30 minutes at any one time.Set the function selector knob to the grill position and the temperatureselector knob to a max. 200°C. The temperature can be varied depending on the food being cooked (max.200°C). Before using the grill, pre-heat for about five minutes. Position the grill pan onthe highest shelf position and keep checking as it could easily burn.To avoid possible smoking during grilling it is advisable to add a little waterto the grill pan.The oven is supplied with a grill pan handle which clips onto the grill pan.The handle must be removed before closing the oven door.We recommend that you use oven gloves when using the grill pan handle orwhen removing the grill pan or oven shelves as they become very hot whenin use.

The light will cycle on and off during cooking in line with the oven temperature.

The oven has two heating elements, one on the base of the oven and one on the top. Hotair rises, so the top of the oven is always the hottest.

The temperature in the middle of the oven is maintained at the temperature set by thecontrol knob and is slightly hotter at the top and slightly cooler at the bottom of the oven.

Fan The oven light is switched on. The fan operates without the heating element, this function can be used for defrosting.

50-225 The oven light is switched on.The oven temperature can be set between 50°C - 225°C. The set temperature has been reached when the temperature indicator lightgoes off. Several different meals may be cooked simultaneously on various shelves, asthe heated air circulates evenly throughout the oven. The hot air system cooksmore quickly than conventional static system, therefore the temperatureshould be set 15°C 20°C below the values recommended in your recipebooks. The oven door may be opened though briefly while cooking as anyheat losses are quickly recovered when the door is closed.

17

Cooking with a fan ovenFan cooking is more economical and quicker than cooking in a conventional oven.

The fan is situated on the back wall of the bottom oven.

The heating element encircles the fan, and the fan forces the heat into the oven ensuring aneven temperature throughout. The moving hot air surrounds the food and penetrates it morequickly than in a conventional oven. The oven can be filled with different dishes all requiring the same cooking temperature. Subtract 10 minutes per hour for every dish requiring a cooking time of more than 1 hourand reduce the heat by 10-20°C; the hotter the oven, the more the temperature can bereduced.

Generally, there is no need to pre-heat a fan oven, but it is advisable to pre-heat for about 5minutes to ensure the best results; use the indicator light as a guide, it goes out when theset temperature is reached.

Optional Safety GuardsWARNING: Ovens become very hot with use, and retaintheir heat for a long time after use. Children should besupervised at all times and be prevented from touching thehot surfaces, until such time as the appliance has cooled.A safety guards for the top and bottom oven doorsare available at an addition cost if required. To order telephone accessories direct 0870 6052020.
