Only three primary colors will be used for painting. There are 4-6 short demos each day with student practice between, so that participants can absorb and assimilate the lessons. In critiques, Lian helps students by touching up their paintings (if they want). By the end of the workshop, students may be able to finish their paintings, or learn enough techniques to complete them later. Lian started sketching and painting in his childhood and continued it as hobby while practicing medicine as a family physician in Canton Province, China. After immigrating to the US in 1985, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from UC at Berkeley in 1992 and a Master of Architecture from MIT in 1996. He has exhibited in the US, Hong Kong and China and has developed an international following. His paintings hang in numerous public and private collections around the world, including the MIT Museum which has collected 14 of his paintings. Since 2000, North Light Books has published five of Lian's books. Four of them are watercolor and Chinese painting demo and instruction books, and one is his painting album which is North Light's first living-artist’s painting coffee table book in its publishing history. http://www.lianspainting.com Cost The workshop cost of $325 includes a $25 non-refundable registration fee. This payment will hold your place in the workshop. Snacks and drinks will be available in the morning and afternoon. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. We will send participants enrolled in the workshop an invoice as a reminder that the balance must be paid by June 1, 2017. Wait Lists When the workshop is full, potential participants may sign up on the wait list. No registration fee is required to be on the wait list. Participants are notified of openings in the order they sign up. Cancellation and Refunds § All cancellations must be made in writing. You may send an email to [email protected] or mail a letter to cancel your spot in this workshop. Mail to NWS – 19 Jefferson St., Newton, MA 02458. § If you cancel before June 1, 2017, you will receive a refund of any tuition you have paid for the workshop; the NWS will retain your $25 deposit registration fee. § If you cancel on or after June 1, 2017, you will forfeit your entire tuition for the workshop if we are unable to fill your spot. Note: a friend may attend the workshop in your place or you may donate your spot as a scholarship to a student in financial need. Supplies A supply list will be sent as soon as it is available.
